The more you know the better. If they DI find out you have a college Degree in History there going to be all over you. Also it's very Motivating to learn the History of the Corps and our Brothers that came before us. No Hollywood War show is perfect it's Hollywood remember. You should have seen how some Marines reacted to Generation Kill.
Yes I have it's on the commandant reading list. Have you read Civil War Marines, Marines in the revolution, or the Miracle of Belleau woods? I would suggest watching Wake Island: the Alamo of the Pacific and the Battle of Tripoli both are by the History Channel. Also have watch the Pacific?
Ohhrah Devil Pup how are you? me am good thinking about becoming a amateur Living Historian on Marine Corps History. Problems is replica uniforms are expensive. Also I was tempted to bid on $600 dollar WW1 USMC helmet from Belleau Wood. Also waiting for the books to come in and to write a short paper on the history of the Corps.
