ALTON, Ill. (AP) -- It's a different take on belly up to the bar.

A 24-year-old female bartender in the Mississippi River community of Alton is charged with misdemeanor lewd entertainment after apparently working in the buff.

Police arrested Jamie Day last Friday at the Pub Room after someone called to complain.

Authorities say Day had managed to put on a shirt before officers arrived.

It's not the first time it's happened in that area.

Last month in nearby Jersey County, a 33-year-old bartender at The Cabin Incorporated in Delhi was charged with public indecency after sheriff's deputies found her working nude.

That county's liquor regulators subsequently suspended the tavern's liquor license for 30 days and fined its owner $500.

I don't really have a problem with this... as long as she wears a hair net.

I don't know why nudity is such a big deal with people. Nudity and pornography are two completely different things. A person being nude doesn't automatically have sexual connotations.

Furthermore, if the bar was a private establishment and the bartender couldn't be seen from the street, is it really lewd conduct worth a charge?

She probably did it for extra tips, but I bet it riled up the drunken men and they were getting more aggressive with the female patrons. I think it's more of something the owner should crack down on, not the authorities. If he wants to run an establishment that chicks are gonna avoid 'cuz they get harassed by frustrated drunks, let him.

It is if that one prude complains about it, instead of simply leaving. Someone who was in the bar actually left and called the cops because they were so offended. I come from a city where nude beaches are common, so my view on this is pretty liberal, but I can see why some who are not used to seeing nudity other than porn or when they look at themselves in the mirror in the morning would find this shocking.

Also, it's kind of random of just one staff member to be nude when there is no outside suggestion to indicate to customers that there will be nudity in the joint.
