WNBA - Why is it still even around?

Do WNBA players deserve more pay?

But the school absolutely relies on their generated revenue.

Try harder shipmate with a little less gender phobia.
This isn't about what the school makes. It is about what the athletes make. Amateur sports have nothing to do with this discussion.

If you bring in more money, you get paid more, plain and simple. Rhonda Rousey was making more than most of the men, because brought in more money than most of the men. This isn't a charity. This is business.

Like when the US Women's soccer team generated more revenue than the men and got paid less?
They never generated more revenue... You are just making things up. Why? Because the National Teams money comes from the World Cup and the men's World Cup makes 440 million dollars and the women's World Cup makes 30 million dollars. The men do not do as well but they make more for advancing to certain stages of the tournament.

Even more impressive if he is still playing the piano. Zombie Beethoven playing the piano would get my money.
It would also make a great Reality Show.

Bodi being Bodi..........

8 minutes was a lot of time to look those up... I bet you have never watched much of a WNBA game much less a whole one... much less for a season.

Do something that you never do... back up your claim with evidence.

Prove it Bodi. I back up my claims when called out whether I am right or wrong..

Not everyone is a cut and paste commando like yourself.

Bodi being Bodi..........

You have to actually read the article.
Prove it Bodi. I back up my claims when called out whether I am right or wrong..
So you won't back up your argument with evidence. I predicted such.

There is an example of actual misogyny.

Why on earth is that misogyny? I watch Marvel movies because of the hot guys. If it was only Black Widow and the Red Witch, I doubt I would.

I like looking at hot guys...has nothing negative to say about women.

I dont watch basketball at all, men or women, because no matter how hot, the sport just doesnt interest me. Magic hammers, muscley guys, wild sword fights...that's entertainment!

My Top Sports to watch, in Order.

NBA
Women's US National Team Soccer
Women's Tennis
NFL
Women's College Softball
MLB
NHL
Men's Tennis
A bunch of others

That's nice, if you're into sports, I guess.

There is an example of actual misogyny.

Take your payback without making up pretzel logic, especially since I don't really post about your favorite topics.

Men don't give a shit about women's sports and it's a total shame because they have a lot of talent but can't dunk.
Dunking is a big thing when it comes to what fans want to see. Layups not so much.

the NBA makes $8 BILLION dollars a year... the WNBA LOSES $10 Million dollars a year.
Yeah, those WNBA numbers you keep throwing around? They're from 2018.

It shouldn't be surprising, of course, that the financial situation is a teeny bit more complex than you seem to grasp. About half the teams are profitable, while some teams get saddled with corporate expenses unrelated to the team in order to make the owner's books look good. And of course, proclaiming that "the league is losing money!" was, at least in part, an attempt to hold leverage during salary negotiations.

As a result, the WNBA decided to do a round of funding, which was wildly successful. It raised $75 million in its first round, which set its value at $1 billion. That was more than double what was expected.

As with many other women's sports, viewership is growing. 2022 was its biggest season yet for viewership.

Similarly, March Madness was huge for the women's teams -- the final game in 2022 had 4.85 million viewers, up 18% from the previous year.

We should also note that the sport can't expand if salaries are stagnant. Players will either drop out or go elsewhere -- many already play in Europe, where women's pro basketball salaries are much higher. The 2020 boost in pay was critical.

Last but not least, women's sports have been neglected or subjected to sexist intent (e.g. women's beach volleyball) for decades, while men's are mature and the audiences saturated. As a result, the NBA isn't likely to see a significant increase in fans, while the WNBA has a huge growth potential.

In other words: Strangling the WNBA today, based on cooked 5-year old numbers and a heaping dose of misogyny, would be like betting against Amazon in 1998 because it hadn't turned a profit yet, and who wants to buy books over the computer anyway?

They are still current... if not worse. I showed they lost 10 million a season and 2022 figures show they lost 12 million.

the WNBA lost $12 million last year, all the WNBPA asks for is clarity.
It shouldn't be surprising, of course, that the financial situation is a teeny bit more complex than you seem to grasp.
I was not getting into all of the factors. I stated an overall premise that is accurate and that you have not refuted. You are free to try and refute it.

That is what Draymond Green stated in the source that I gave... sorry, way ahead of you.

That is because it has been declining ever since 2002... it is bound to go up now and then post Covid it makes sense it might go up as people are eager again.
We should also note that the sport can't expand if salaries are stagnant. Players will either drop out or go elsewhere -- many already play in Europe, where women's pro basketball salaries are much higher. The 2020 boost in pay was critical.
Salaries can not go up if very few people care about the games...
Last but not least, women's sports have been neglected or subjected to sexist intent (e.g. women's beach volleyball) for decades, while men's are mature and the audiences saturated. As a result, the NBA isn't likely to see a significant increase in fans, while the WNBA has a huge growth potential.
It is not sexist to not support something one does not enjoy watching.

Watch this: It is sexist that men's table tennis players do not make as much as Serena Williams does. They do not get the funding that they should get.
In other words: Strangling the WNBA today, based on cooked 5-year old numbers
Not five year old numbers
and a heaping dose of misogyny,
You just couldn't help yourself and had to start tossing out personal insults. Says a lot about you...

What an absolutely weird analogy. LOL

I will watch ladies golf if I see it, but mainly because so many of them are pretty hot and you can get some nice pantie shots with those short skirts they wear.
@Lursa supports your comment about "pantie shots" so either what you said is not misogynist or she has a really strange view on it, as a woman.

Why? I cant stand golf but it would have a lot more appeal if there were any really cut guys playing in boxers.

Sad you've lost your entire libido to bitterness and resentment 🤷 Some men do characterize divorce as their ex's taking their cojones with them....

It is not because of chauvinism. It is because people want to see the best at their craft. Why would I watch a local piano player if Beethoven is playing down the road?
Does the WNBA not show women basketball players at the top of their craft?

Do you only watch the men in the Olympics?
