We're hunkered down for 12 - 18 inches of snow beginning tonight (it's snowing/sleeting now) and ending Monday morning. Both wood heaters are blowing hot and homemade veggie soup has been slow cooking all day. Oh, and watching the Army Navy game.

I'm south of Hickory and looking for a few inches here as well. Got my generator (45kv LPG) ready and food in place (wine, beer, and when that runs out - Crown Royal Black). I don't expect much in the way of problems, but I'm going to make the most out of whatever happens.

Yes Ma'am has already gotten the sleds out and dusted off the ski bibs.

Where's WNC?
We heat with wood, too. Lotta work but I sure like how it feels.

Western North Carolina is my best guess.

Ah, thanks. Probably right.
My guesses were getting increasingly ridiculous and nearing pornographic.

Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado?

OK, but my guess was based on the national weather forecast. That part of NC is beautiful. I was there several times on my motorcycle and remember staying at a motorcycle only campground (those are quite rare) about 20 miles off of the Blueridge Parkway.

Snow is tolerable, even the up to 12" expected where I live.

However, ice is another thing, and they are predicting about 8 hours of freezing rain by Monday 8am.

If that happens there will probably be 100s of thousands of people without power, including definitely me, because if anyone loses power around here I lose power, and I mean for days.

The tail end of Hurricane Michael put me in the dark for 3 days 4 hrs, and that was in October during mild weather.

Oh well, I've been out twice in December that I can recall, and I guess I ought to be able to live through it again.

Hope you have bottles of water, a generator, and such.

No generator, power went out about 2am Sunday. Plenty of water, we have 4 large containers like sport teams have and our well gives about 20 gallons before pressure is gone. We have heat powered fans for the wood stoves. We're warm and overfed. So far about 10-12 inches of snow Sunday and it appears about 4 more fell last night.

As predicted, 12" of wintry mix where I live, with enough freezing rain state-wide to cut the lights for 289,000 people.

Welcome to the sunny South!

Of course I was one of the ones who lost power (1202am Monday), but miraculously it came back on around 10am, then cockteasingly went off again at 1027am, then came back on, hopefully to stay, at 121pm.

More bad news is that daily temps will be 42-44 high/25-32 low for the next several days which means dangerous ice on the ground 24 hrs a day. At least I have lights.
