Will Smith attacks Chris Rocks at the Oscars

Looks like the publicist was attempting some damage control. There will be a lot of phone calls and video-conferences in the coming weeks among agents, publicists, lawyers, casting directors, etc. regarding this incident. I really think this will hurt Smith’s value at the box office. I, for one, really enjoyed the live-action version of Aladdin, but I know the next time I watch it, if there is a next time, I’ll remember this and have a sour taste in my mouth. And I had wanted to see King Richard, but it can wait. Definitely won’t buy it on Blu Ray now. I see enough crazy people on TV.
No doubt. This is going to have a ripple effect for some time for both Will and Jada, I imagine. We'll see.

But a "sour taste" it's giving me too.

Someone laughs at my wife's illness, I imagine I'd react the same way.

I am a Chris Rock fan, but he really ****ed that up.

When I first heard about it I thought it was a joke.

Chris Rock looks like he has had some bad plastic surgery, certainly not very healthy, and Will Smith looked like he has aged quite a bit in the last few years

They are in their 50s. What did you expect?

Oh, what a shocker! Guy from the ghetto acts ghetto.

He didn't even have to be an actor to pull that one off.
Maybe we should send Smith over to talk to Putin.
Oh wait, that might seem like a regime change provocation.
Forget I mentioned that. Walk it back.

Rock later filed a report. The assailant is reported to be a white guy in a MAGA hat with a noose and a bottle of bleach. The assailant reportedly said, "Hollywood is MAGA country"
The entire country should be thankful that Rock did get smacked by a white guy.
Al Sharpton and Ben Crump would already be on a plane heading for L.A.
Probably a lot of money in that law suit.

Did anyone see Denzel Washington's reaction to his acceptance speech?

I only saw a short clip, but when Smith finished Denzel didn't clap, and didn't look too pleased with him.

To my knowledge, no one knows if Rock knew or not. I don't believe he would have made a joke like that if he did but then again who knows.

The whole incident was handled badly by Smith who BTW was laughing his ass off at the joke until Jada either said something or he made the connection and it took away from him winning the Oscar as we are all talking about this

It is very possible Rock was not aware of Jada's condition.
I have seen Jada on talk shows and don't recall her ever mentioning it either and I don't follow the Table Talk Series

Jada Pinkett Smith's history with alopecia after Chris Rock Oscars upset

Watch: Will Smith slaps Chris Rock after insensitive joke on Oscars stage

A joke made at the expense of Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia, became the biggest talking point at last night's Oscars 2022. Will Smith stormed the stage and appeared to hit Chris Rock after the comedian made a crass joke his wife's short haircut, comparing the shaved hairstyle of Pinkett Smith to Demi Moore's buzzcut G.I. Jane.

But the quip clearly touched a nerve with Smith after his wife had previously opened up about being diagnosed with alopecia.

Pinkett Smith, 50, has been vocal about dealing with hair loss for some time, first revealing that she was living with the autoimmune disorder publicly in 2018 on her Red Table Talk series.

"A lot of people have been asking why I've been wearing turbans. Well, I haven't talked about it. It's not easy to talk about, but I am going to talk about it," she said.

L.A. would have been burned to the ground overnight.

I have yet to see any evidence that Chis Rock was aware of Smith’s medical condition. Until I do, he gets the benefit of the doubt, and people in the theater, including, initially, her husband, weren’t laughing at her illness. They were laughing at a G.I. Jane joke.

Everything in the world has to be racial, right guys?

Everything.

Maybe we’re looking at it all wrong. Maybe Smith was pissed, not about about the joke referencing his wife’s hair, but at the suggestion that Jada would even do a movie as awful as GI Jane.

I find it interesting that before the alopecia joke, Rock also made a joke about her not being “invited” to the Oscars for the movie Concussion. Maybe that’s what really had her looking pissed.

People made fun of Sarah Palin’s Down Syndrome son and we were told, at the time, to suck it up and there’s no right to not be offended.
By "people," do you mean (mostly) anonymous, random people on the internet? Yeah, you gotta suck up the internet.

i guess this means The Rock and Rhonda Rousey have to host next year.

Given the many roles that Jada has played, it would not be out of "character" for her to have gotten on stage and slapped Chris Rock, if she were upset.

Bill Maher is one of those anonymous people who took a shot at Palin’s son, while Letterman took one at Palin’s daughter. Letterman’s joke was something about how the then eighteen year old got knocked up, though he didn’t specify and many people thought DL was attacking SP’s younger daughter, then 14.

Should people start attacking comedians on stage if they feel insulted?

I doubt that is what we should be doing wholesale. But I think if you go up to the guy who insulted your wife who has a medical condition and beat the living shit out of them...you're not completely wrong.

Quote anyone who said that.... I'll show you someone who was dead wrong.

She sure didn’t try to stop him, so she was there, standing by her man in spirit.

(And please withhold the hair jokes. One of the five dead husbands she stood by might come out of his grave to defend her honor.)

Maybe it was real, but this is Hollywood actors & I don't buy anything from them as being real (e.g. their positions on science & politics). I dismiss it as being as fake as wrestling; it's Andy Kaufman stuff.
