Why Is Donald Trump Running For President ?

I'll give you my opinion, and it's not that complicated. And it doesn't have much to do with Trump wanting to "fix" America because he loves it so much.

Basically, he is running for President now because his biological clock is running out. On election day 2016 he will be 70 and a half years old.

Trump has been threatening to run for President of the United States for the past 4 or 5 presidential election cycles. Never actually did it, until now, and now he can scratch it off his bucket list. In 2020 he would be too old. Besides, there is a chance that Mexico will run out of murderers and rapists to send to the U.S. by then, and he wouldn't have an issue.

Which brings us to his issue. The issue of illegal immigration provided Trump with a built in 15-20 percent of the Republican Party as his base, without even having to have a plan or policy to deal with the issue. Just mention illegal immigrants and getting rid of them in the same sentence and you are a formidable contender in the GOP.

This is exactly why Trump is a Republican these days, he knows that his two main themes, illegal immigration and ISIS/Iran, ensure him a decent number of backers in the Republican Party without having to lift a finger to be intelligent, thoughtful, or even necessarily coherent. This would not be the case if he ran as a Democrat.

Trump is running because he is a narcissist blowhard who wants all the attention in the world. His TV show had run out of gas (NBC took to showing multiple episodes of the Celebrity Apprentice in a row on Monday nights , midseason, last time it aired, just to get the dang thing over with) and he needed something new to keep his juices flowing.

Now that he has stumbled into a front runner position, he has to ride it and see what happens. That is all it is.

He's got a tax reform plan and a plan for us to quit losing economically to the rest of the world. I'd say that's quite a bit more than the red meat issues you describe.

He is running (R) until they nominate someone else then he will switch to (I) and Ross Perot the election for Hillary.

This has been the plan to get Hillary elected all along.
 
Funny - I think narcissist blowhard / Ego-driven idiot really sums up all candidates.

Being president REQUIRES it . . . how many people have been pushed into presidency without their own desire and belief that they should be there? I imagine that to hound hte country and chase votes and support by kissing ass it takes an incredibly huge freaking ego from all candidates.

Our country no longer responds to genuine interest in the future of hte nation - a lot of people have this in spades but without the self-pushing ego it doesn't go far.
 
Yep, Donald is no spring chicken like Hillary or Bernie.

That's GREAT news! Can you provide a link to that? I would be very interested to actually read those plans. Just taking it on faith that he has one, doesn't work for me. It would help if I could see the nuts and bolts of his plans. Thanks in advance!

His "plan" for us to quit losing economically is to let him do the negotiating because he wrote a book called, "The Art of the Deal."

Maybe you should have prefaced your assertion with "I think", as I am sure no evidence exists to support your claim.

It would be like me claiming that he definitely is running to make sure Bush doesn't win. (A claim that is as likely as yours.)

But presently the only evidence we have is that he is running to be the President and he believes he can win.
 

And these two particular issues are particularly great for someone who does not wish to stake an actual policy position this early into the debate for a couple of reasons.

For starters, the "goals" for both are agreeable for huge percentages of the population. For immigration, nearly everyone can agree that we want to stop illegal immigration and especially to stop violent criminals from entering the United States. For ISIS/Iran, nearly everyone can agree that we want to defeat ISIS/Iran and to prevent them from committing new terrorist attacks.

The other reason that these are great policy staples for Trump is that there is a significant percentage of the Republican base that will gladly endorse a very simplistic approach to achieving these goals - namely that we "shut down the borders" and that we "take out ISIS." Neither of these approaches work in a real life situation, but most low information voters, to hijack their favorite term, do not care or want to hear about the complexities involved in dealing with, let alone "solving," those problems.
 

Just throwing it out there, obviously its my thoughts on the matter. There is no evidence that he thinks he can win, maybe you should have prefaced that with "I think".
 

As a general rule, adding the phrase, "I think" only tends to weaken an argument. The fact that his name is included on the post is enough for us to know that this is his opinion.

No. It was stated as a definitive when it isn't.
 
I think he's entered into a bargain with the Clintons and the DNC. His mission is two-fold: 1) to act as an internal wrecking ball against the Republican Party, and to enable the media to paint all Republicans with the broad brush of being Trump-like (It's ironic that in the Spanish language "trompon" means "a blow, a punch", in botany in that same language "Narcissus", or get this "Helter-Skelter"!) and alienating many more people to the Republican Party. 2) his obnoxious (trumpnoxious) behavior sure to alienate mainstream Republicans, he is then sure to run as an Independent, the ultimate goal, and siphon votes from the Republican POTUS candidate, and in so doing, allowing Hillary Clinton to win by default- THE Endgame. I mentioned on another thread the movie "The Dead Zone", with Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen. Study the character played by Martin Sheen, also a Presidential hopeful. While not a billionaire, like Trump, the personalities are eerily similar.

Short answer, because he wants to.

Less shorter answer: because he wants his name to be copyrighted/trademarked in China and he doesn't like I trade and tax policies.

Did I speak to believing him or did I speak of evidence and there being no evidence to counter that?
Since you couldn't tell the difference, I would suggest you follow your own advice.
 
He's obviously running in order to help Hillary get elected and to bring attention to himself, not necessarily in that order.
