Correct me if I’m wrong but the wall was Trumps main political promise during the entire campaign but yet it took two years and the giving up of control of congress before the big push came for wall funding which has now resulted in a government shutdown. Why? Was it on purpose to wait? Was it bureaucracy that caused the delay? Was it just poor planning? Is it cynical of me to think that it was intentional? Full disclosure I don’t personally support the wall or the shutdown but I am curious why it became a crisis right before the mid terms but not during the first two years.
I'll correct you, since you are wrong.
The wall was ONE of Trump campaign issues, but he had others that were just as important. I'm not sure where you get the idea that it was the "main political promise". Perhaps from the media?
Trump made a big push for wall funding in late 2017 and early 2018. It didn't work out. So no...he didn't wait until now.

Thats a great question and really a black eye to both Trump and all the GOP that stands for it. They SHOULD have pressed for it day one but frankly, I dont think the GOP had the stomach for the fight and I doubt Trump thought they would lose the House.
Border security did not 'become' a crisis all of sudden. Democrats have spoke extensively about the dire situation at the border for decades. You might as readily ask why democrats suddenly oppose wall funding when in the past they have voted for it so often...and that also comes down to the same thing...politics over country.
In his arrogance, he thought he could win this. He waited for it, picked a fight and thought being willing to shut down government would scare the Dems. Then, in his idiocy, he laid out his plan for the world and said he would own it. All the Dems had to do was play his clip and be as stubborn as him.
Personally, I do blame a lot more than Trump on this one, but you can't deny he is the one that started the battle and then handed off the win.
Now he can't even find a strategy. Compromise, bluff to barge into the House, blame the other guys. He's trying it all and Pelosi and Schumer have been holding all the cards ever since he told everyone what was coming and he would take the blame.
There might still be a stalemate or even a win in it for Trump, but I personally don't see it at this point.
The problem is Pelosi doesn't have a checkmate to play right now. Until he changes strategies, we are in shutdown and watching the game play out.
To be honest, I don't give a damn about the wall. I don't care which side looks good. I just want these games to stop getting worse and worse every year. End this crap.
They have both put themselves in their own box...but Trump's box has an escape hatch. That's why he'll win. He'll be the one to end the shutdown and he'll still build his wall.
Nancy and Chuck will be left to both literally and figuratively scream at the night sky.
I am at a loss to call anything a "silver lining" when we are going through such a dangerous moment with so many already suffering for a FABRICATION (and I don't mean composite material construction either). But if anything is finally going to put a nail in any hope DonDon has for 2020, this is it!
I am daily stunned by Trump's lack of intellectual depth or breadth and the complete staggering incompetence of the people around him.

Right? If it's such a 'national crisis', why didn't he secure the funding when the Republicans had control of both houses of Congress? But now he's complaining about the Dems being obstructionist, when really it's just him and Mitch McConnell standing in everyone's way.
I'm not. I didn't vote for him, after 36 years of completely supporting Republicans, because I was one of the smart ones who knew how ignorant he was, and knew he would hire ignorant people to be around him. The few smart ones he selected are all gone.

Yes...we have already had this discussion> Democrats DO believe in border walls...so long as they are effective. Which means walls are NOT in fact racist, or evil, or vile, and the bull**** they are saying now is nothing more than ridiculous political posturing. And they still do and they want border security. They simply don't believe that physical border over the entire Southern border is the answer....that is if they ever did. Republicans don't either. That is the reality of the box Trump stuck himself into, a box with no doors, not even a trap door. Sweet move, Mr Great Negotiator.
