With all the criticism out there, who would have been a better choice to put in charge? I think Trump should have reached across the aisle.

Office of the Surgeon General (OSG) | HHS.gov

The U.S. Surgeon General is the Nation’s Doctor, providing Americans with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and reduce the risk of illness and injury. The Surgeon General oversees the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps, an elite group of over 6,000 uniformed officers who are public health professionals. The USPHS mission is to protect, promote, and advance the health of our nation.— from the link

A scientist who’s qualified to understand the threat as well as possessing the political skills necessary for directing efforts and partitioning resources. Why not the director of the CDC?

And what’s with your goofy-ass poll options?

Pence starts @ 34 seconds in

He looks and sounds the part.

“Central Casting” right?

At least Trump’s tie matches his eye shadow.......

Not a bunch of department heads constituting managers and bureaucrats. The team of pandemic epidemiologists that was fired. Actual on the ground scientists working in their field. Re-constitute the applicable teams from science and academia.

Born Again Ken is not a scientist.

Coronavirus won’t be defeated by prayer.

If Pence falters or Trump can spin this on Pence, hello Nikki Haley and landslide in November, imo!

Your first two poll choices obviously should not be given an executive job (unless they were to resign their legislative job) so that leaves Pence or other. I see no reason (yet) not to let Pence have the job since it should involve the efforts of more than one executive department and selecting Pence does not increase the cost to the taxpayers or muck up the chain of command.

Pence doesn't strike me as a decisive leader. Ok, Shumer and Pelosi were tongue in cheek choices since they are running their mouths, pretending to know better. Thus 'other' for more competent persons.

Based on what?

That you don't even consider a subject matter expert or scientist for the position says a lot about you and the general death of respect for knowledge and experience that you've contributed to.

With 'other' you are welcome to fill in the blank(s). Now keep on attacking me.

The CDC

With the money they need to deal with it

He's speaking after Donald Trump. He could be reaching into his pants and flinging crap at the audience but using complete sentences and everyone would look at each other and go "well, it's a step up from the fat one."

Nothing would have taken the edge off the knife like putting Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in charge

Sebelius was on a show yesterday and explained how they handled pandemics. When asked if anyone from the Trump org had contacted her, she said no. Putting Pence in charge is absurd on the face of it. How about experts?

There is already discussion of a "SARS Czar." All politicians can do is vote for funding and cheerlead. Right now the University of Nebraska Medical Center is on the frontline, but I hope other major medical centers with partner with the CDC, the WHO, and whatever organizations can help.
