Spitzer tried to shut down and fine NY's tribal nations' businesses of selling tobacco products, equating them with criminals, calling them tax cheats....stock up now, Tec;)

I was going to vote a pretty straight Democratic ticket because the Republicans got us into a pointless war causing Iraq to possibly become a Shiite theocracy allied with Iran, neutered our military to the point that it can no longer intimidate countries that could actually be dangerous to us, lowered our standing in the world, took a surplus and turned it into a giant deficit, gutted civil liberties and slashed countless environmental regulations while completely ignoring the threat of global warming.

But then Kerry may have insulted the intelligence of our soldiers or botched a joke, so I'm going to have to vote straight Republican.

This thread is also a challenge to all those who SAY they are politically active but have no clue as to who their Representatives are. Note: If you cannot list who your particular Senators' or House of Representative is, you are NOT helping this country!

Mine are:
  • Diane Feinstein (US Senator)
  • Barbara Boxer (US Senator)
  • Dana Rohrabacher (Representative 46th District)
Now I challenge everyone to do the same.

So far, Tecoyah has passed with flying colors.

aps and hipsterdufus have done very well too.

Go to the website. Trust me. It's worth it, even if only for the theme song. =)

The Shiites in the vast middle of Iraq will.

I note the lack of a reason to vote FOR Democrats.

Texas:

Govenor: Richard "Kinky" Friedman (I)
Senator: Kay Bailey Hutchison (R)
House: Sam Johnson (R)

Texas House: Jerry Madden (R) [uncontested]
Texas Senate: Florence Shapiro (R) [uncontested]

That they are not Republicans is perfectly sufficient at this point. What do you expect me to do? Vote in the same people who screwed everything up? Besides, a proper checks and balances is needed to keep one party from going mad with power, as has so evidently been the case for the last six years.

Why must politicians have ideas anyway? The problem as I see it is that they have entirely too many of them. That's why we're in such a mess now.

May the God of your choice bless you. If he wins, I'm moving to Texas.

Yeah let's just get rid of them and hire a coin flipper.

Hmmm...you might have something there. A bill comes before President Bush for raising carbon monoxide emissions standards. Now, we all know that Bush would never sign any such thing. But then, what if it came down to a coin toss? That would mean there would be a 50/50 percent chance instead of a 0% chance that he would actually sign an environmentally friendly bill into law. I'm with you on this! Let's do it!

Senate: Klobuchar-D
US Rep 4th District: McCullom-D
Gov: Hatch-D
Secretary of State: Spoonheim- I
State Auditor: Anderson-R
State Atty General: Swanson-D

For the amendments, I voted for the Transportation Amendment (Which would mean that the taxes used to pay for roads would actually have to be used for transportation as opposed to other items). I voted against a property tax hike at $569 (or so) to go to schools as well.

For the glorious state of Nebraska, I voted for:

Senate:
Ben Nelson (D)

House:

Lee Terry (R)

Gov:

Dave Heineman (R)

I also voted for an inititave for video keno, let's cross our fingers everyone else did!

Your original question was why congressman have to have ideas anyway, defending this new Democrat principle of not having principles upon which to build ideas, so where would the bill come from in the first place?

Let's just phone in ideas and have an official coin flipper since legislators don't need ideas nor should they present them according to the left.

Since legislation as it stands rarely represents the needs of the people, I support this wholeheartedly. Republicans have been the party of "ideas" for the last six years, and just look where we are now because of those fabulous ideas. To be serious now, Democrats have plenty of ideas on where they stand, so the myth that they don't is really just a product of oft-repeated Fox and limbaugh-esque false soundbites. They are generally pro-life, pro-environment, pro-effective war on terror, pro-balanced budget, pro-education, and pro-separation of church and state. Democrats are not as libertarian as I would desire, but otherwise those are ideas I can get behind. Yet you already knew most of what I already listed. You already knew that democrats were already pro-choice, pro-environment, and for the separation of church and state, for example, so why do you continue to harp on the myth that they don't have ideas or positions? It really doesn't make any sense.

Ahhhh they were just keeping it secret.

so the myth that they don't is really just a product of oft-repeated Fox and limbaugh-esque false soundbites.

They said it themselves.

They are generally pro-life, pro-environment, pro-effective war on terror, pro-balanced budget, pro-education, and pro-separation of church and state.

Pro-life? Did anyone on the dems side run on a pro-life position, what is it they want to do that is pro-life? And we are all pro-environement but what exact was it the Dems were saying they are going to do, we all want effective war what is the Dems plan, balanaced-budget yep but what is the Dem plan. What are their ideas heck what are their goals? And I'm asking about them not YOU, not what YOU want but specific proposals the Dems are bringing forth.

Democrats are not as libertarian as I would desire, but otherwise those are ideas I can get behind.

And do WHAT? That is the question.

Yet you already knew most of what I already listed. You already knew that democrats were already pro-choice, pro-environment, and for the separation of church and state, for example, so why do you continue to harp on the myth that they don't have ideas or positions?

So I know what they like to think about, but what are they going to do? Let's all stipulate that we all want the war on terror and the actions in Iraq specifically to end as quickly as possible. What is the Dems plan and what are they will to sacrifice to get what they want? They don't say. They said they would say, several times they said they would finally tell us, they never did. How about the economy? We ALL want a good economy. What is the Dem plan as far as economic matters, they have none. Healthcare, we ALL want the best health care for the most people and the least cost. What have the Dems proposed and point me to a cite, not that they just want people to have good health care, where have THEY stated what their plans are?
