There's a point at which assimilation is good and a point at which their culture becomes part of ours. For example, if all the Italians that came decided that they were going to eat like Americans now, we wouldn't have pizza.
The kind of assimilation where they stop speaking their native language takes a couple of generations. The Polish immigrants used to have this idea in their heads that someday they'd all go back to Poland. Two or three generations down the line, they aren't.

This is the claim by the liberal left, and such has been outed as spin many times over, so one wonders why it is continually used....

"They're telling (pro-immigration) advocacy groups that they're focusing on the worst of the worst" by committing more resources to the most dangerous undocumented immigrants.

So what are the facts? Nearly 400,000 individuals were removed from the country in fiscal year 2011, which ended September 30, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. ICE Director John Morton trumpeted the news, calling it the result of "smart and effective immigration enforcement" that depends on "setting clear priorities for removal and executing on those priorities."
The 396,906 figure is indeed a record -- but not by much. A total of 392,862 people were deported in 2010 -- a difference of little more than 1%, according to ICE. Almost 390,000 people were deported the year before that.
Significantly larger increases in the total number of deportations occurred during George W. Bush's administration. Fewer than 120,000 people were deported in 2001, when Bush took office.
Analysts say much of the change over the last decade has been due to the implementation of controversial federal-led measures such as Secure Communities initiative and the Criminal Alien Program, which are designed to root out undocumented immigrants accused or convicted of various criminal acts. Both measures predate Obama's presidency."

Did you miss the word "most" in my post, I never said "all" did I? You'll also note that the majority are in the southwestern states, with a few exceptions, even by that map, as I said. Besides, I think that map is slightly off anyways. Idaho only has 19,000 illegal immigrants. If that makes up 2% of 12 million then some thing is off.

Personally, the ethnic/racial/cultural make-up of a school population is pretty irrelevant if the language and socio-economic factors are within the norms. If, however, a large segment of a school's population requires extensive or increased English as a second language classes/programs and teachers are required to moderate lesson plans and course study to match a classroom population's learning readiness, then those ethnic/racial/cultural impacts may be significant as it relates to resources redirected and outcomes missed.
