However, the white farming family that was the subject of the story came to Sherrod's defense and said she should stay in her job.
"We probably wouldn't have (our farm) today if it hadn't been for her leading us in the right direction," said Eloise Spooner, 82, the wife of farmer Roger Spooner of Iron City, Ga. "I wish she could get her job back because she was good to us, I tell you."
She told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she considered Sherrod a "friend for life," saying that "the federal official worked tirelessly to help" them hold onto their farm as they faced bankruptcy in 1986.
"Her husband told her, 'You're spending more time with the Spooners than you are with me,'" Spooner told the Journal-Constitution. "She took probably two or three trips with us to Albany just to help us out."
I think it's clear that having all the facts, the White House acted stupidly.
yes, they did. i agree. and right wing media misused their power to get it to happen.

Oy. You're impossible.
Obviously Fox is neither fair nor balanced nor reliable.
actually, you are. the misleading story was put forward by a conservative, without context. can you admit that?
Of course. He wasn't given the entire speech.
Actually, he did have access to the entire speech, but chose to heavily edit it, and then disseminated it as the original speech. No excuse whatsoever for that.
Actually, I thought that Breitbart said that he didn't get the entire speech, and that the clips were put out there as he received them? Got any proof that he had the entire speech?

Time for me to get this out of the way. I don't see eye to eye with most of Obama's agenda, but this is a case where I have to call it as I see it. The apology had to be done, because it was the right thing to do.
Thank you, Mr. President.

If what you say is true that is really sloppy, lazy, amateurish journalism
LibLady -- I know how deeply you felt about this issue -- I could feel your passion in your posts. I'm glad the White House apologized...a very unusual thing for the White House to do in any circumstance. I do have to wonder -- what were they apologizing for? Anyone know? It was my understanding that she was fired by her immediate supervisor....with calls from Washington to "handle it."
I'm not sure how I personally feel about it -- because I understood her dismissal. But, in the scheme of things, it's just not that important now that it's resolved.
One thing I am sure of is that had this been a white woman relating her experience in the same exact way, she'd be forever toast. We still have that double standard, I'm thinkin'.

Good to see the White House step up and admit they were wrong. Knee jerk reactions are rarely a good thing.
So we are supposed to believe with Obama's track record of bad mouthing conservative news organizations he did this because of this news story?
Nice try but Obama dropped the ball when he could have access to the NAACP. Nice try but Obama as usual acted without thinking
