What Was The Last Movie You Watched and Rate it!

American Hustle - 5/10.

I didnt bother to watch this in theatres because I prefer to watch drama movies from the comfort of my own home. I wondered about the buzz that was surrounding this movie and now that I saw it it seems just average, it felt like I had watched something like this before. Nothing new.

Same. I got bored with it and didn't even finish it. Surprised me, too, because I'll usually watch a movie if it has people in it that I like, and I like Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.

The Natural.

Better than the first time I saw it during its theatrical release.

8 of 10.

The Dark Legacy
The Dark Legacy II

Wow.

Ever heard of BDS? Bush Derangement Syndrome?

These "documentaries" were made by a real insane person with a case of BDS.

Gist of the movies...

Part 1. George H.W. Bush murdered JFK.

Then in part II, George W. Bush murdered John Kennedy junior.

His theory is that JKjr, hired a flying instructor for his plane who was previously brainwashed by Bush to be a Manchurian candidate to crash it into the sea. Then GWB, Cheney, Powell and Condi Rice took a boat into the Atlantic Ocean to pick up the body of the pilot. Just to make Kennedy look bad.

The guy is almost as kooky as some forumers at DP.

Dark Skies (2013) - IMDb

Very scary situation in this movie. The feeling of helplessness and being completely outmatched is well done, as well realistic in a situation like that. My favorite part of the movie is when Mr. and Mrs. Barret meet Edwin Pollard, the expert.

Pacific Rim (2013) - IMDb

A very predictable movie. The Kaiju (other worldly monsters), while enormous, lack any really originality except for the EMP ability of one of them. The Jaegers, while a cool concept of of two pilots linked together by their minds, are pretty underwhelming. I remarked to my wife about 3/4 of the way into the movie that the Jaegers needed swords like Optimus Prime, ironically, a few moments before the main pilot's Jaeger busts it out. I think the movie would have been better had they broken it up into two installments - the first focusing on when the Kaiju first appeared and wrecked havoc in San Francisco, which lead the world community to invest in the Jaeger. The second movie would cover this movie - several years after the first Kaiju leading up to the destruction of the portal linking Earth and the planet the Kaiju comes from.

"the Hobbit" - finally got round to this and it felt like I've feared for a long time - full of padding to stretch a short story out into a heavyweight series like LOTR.

3/10

Watched Oculus tonight and I thought it was really good. Now it's not for everyone. It's more of a psychological thriller. If you are going in for a jump-out-of-your-seat slasher, this is not for you. It will absolutely mess with your head, but good.

I'd like to go back and see it again, just to make sure I didn't miss anything the first time.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

My absolute favorite of the current Marvel-Avengers series. Captain America seems much more like a superhero now as opposed to a guy in a funny costume, and the film really fleshes out the characters of Steve Rogers, Nick Fury and Black Widow. The Winter Soldier (identity will not be revealed for spoiler purposes) was extremely well done. It also brings a very poignant political message that all of us, right and left, can agree on -- the whole "trading liberty for security" thing.

9.5/10

I just saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier this afternoon. Good movie. (...And I would agree with what Kobie just said about it.)

Also during the previews it showed a trailer of the movie Lucy with Scarlett Johansson...I look forward to watching that movie when it comes out:

I agree. I enjoyed the movie a great deal as well.

It wasn't quite on the same level as The Avengers, but it was easily on par with either Ironman 1 or the first Thor movie.

My only real complaint was the "birdman" backpack. That thing was kind of goofy.

"God's Not Dead"

Released March 21, 2014, budget of $2 million, box officed 42 million so far. The critics dutifully hated it.

Lots of wrenching subplots, centers around a freshman college student debating a jaded, self important Philosophy prof about the existence of God, with the class as the final arbiters. Very interesting, likable characters. Lots going on.

Definitely an uplifting celebration of Christianity with apologies to none. 8/10.

The Grand Budapest Hotel.

This was kind of a quirky, and unusual movie all the way around, with tons of big name actors in roles of various importance.

The overall lightness of the film's tone was more than a little bit jarring in comparison to the rather sad and disturbing nature of the story itself. However, it had a dry sense of humor about which managed to make made me laugh out loud more than a few times before the credits started to roll.

If you're a fan of Wes Anderson's previous work (Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr. Fox, the Royal Tenenbaums, etca), you should enjoy this one as well.

Saw Draft Day today. I really liked it, but then I am trying to remember a sports-themed Kevin Costner movie that I didn't like. Do not watch this movie if you expect it to be a lot of football, because it's not. It's more centered around the draft.

In the hopper:

Chef
Blended
Get On Up

Finally got around to watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier tonight. It was quite good, although very long. The shallow side of me was disappointed when the mask came off and the Winter Soldier was not Ben Foster. I was almost certain it was him. The movie, though, was good, and I'll watch just about anything with Scarlett Johannson in it. She's just amazing.

Nebraska.

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It had a Fargo-esque style in the screenplay.

Best Bruce Dern performance I have ever seen. A great movie showing the love for a Dad from a son.

10 out of 10.

Debate Politics...The Real Story.

It's in final editing...I got a sneak preview.

I'd give it a (opinion deleted by mods).

Under the Skin

Holy moly, what did I just watch? It was...I dunno, I feel like my mind has been abducted.

It stars Scarlett Johansson and is about an extra-terrestrial robot(?) that comes to earth with a mission and one mission only. Other than that I really can't describe it except to say it was as fascinating, as it was creepy, as it was beautiful, as it was dark, as it was open for interpretation. I don't know what to say except it is most unusual film I have seen in a long time and I may have to see it again. No blood and gore, no torture,....but there are some disturbing scenes. I think this film would make Ridley Scott jealous.

Watched The Quiet Ones tonight. It was OK. Just OK. It had it's scary parts, and it had a creepy feel overall, but it wasn't even close to the scariest movies I've ever seen. It will definitely not be a purchase when it's released on DVD.

In the hopper:

The Signal
As Above, So Below (but only if I take a lot of Demerol to keep me from getting motion sick!)
Hercules (maybe)
Jessabelle

For Love Of The Game.
Painful to watch.

That is absolutely, positively one of my all-time favorite movies. Seriously. It's in my top 10. But it's a lot more than a movie about an aging baseball player. It's also a love story, which could explain why you don't like it.

The Best Offer- 8/10

Geoffrey Rush (Barbosa in Pirates of the Caribbean) is really good in this as an eccentric auctioneer who gets drawn to a mysterious woman who lives in an old villa filled with antiques. The twist ending at the end was totally unexpected by me.

I have no problem with love stories. :2razz: I just found it painfully boring, and the baseball action wasn't nearly as good as in Bull Durham or Major League.

Yeah there was not as much baseball as the other two. You are right. I still loved it, though. I bought the soundtrack, too.

Major League was a great movie! We used to watch Major League and The Best of Times as a double feature.
