Isaiah 32
1Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
2And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.
4The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.
5The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.
6For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.
8But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.
Isaiah 32:5
(American Standard Version) The fool shall be no more called noble, nor the churl said to be bountiful.
(NIV) No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected.
(English Standard Version) The fool will no more be called noble, nor the scoundrel said to be honorable.
etc.
so the word "liberal" in this sense was actually being used as a synonym for "noble"
but don't worry Belle, there's always good old Ecclesiastes 10:2
The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.
What do you mean Star?
You are aware that the bible wasn't written in English? Applying a modern day usage of the term liberal to a book written 1700 years ago in a completely different language simply doesn't work.
What attack? I just asked a question, brought something I found to people's attention.
If a book that old seemed to describe conservatives, I'd find it just as interesting.
The only way that could be an attack is if someone who was messing with the poor or something read it and felt guilty. But if you don't believe in the Bible or God, how does it bother you? Stuff from other gods don't bother me at all, so I guess I don't get it.
You know, I bet if we misinterpreted the word "****" in the bible, we could probably find some scripture that endorses homosexuality too.
And I poked holes in your statement, pretty much what we do here on this debate forum.
And I would make the argument about the limitations of language and translation.
Or maybe I just thought your argument was flawed and pointed out the holes in it. I don't have any vested interest in what the bible says, but I do care about logically sound arguments.
It's an attack because I'm a Christian, and a liberal, and you were trying to make the connection using scripture that liberals are liars, and vile scum. If it wasn't an attack you should of worded it as a question, not a statement.

Oh, all right, I'm really sorry.I thought I explained that I was seperating the good liberals from the ones Jesus might stop in my first post. You wouldn't want vile liars in your party (if it meant that) would you? What is your opinion as a Christian on Isaiah 32?
There are good and bad people in every political ideology, as well as vile liars.
All'z I know is that if Jesus was walking and talkin' in the present day, he would be made into mincemeat by today's new-breed conservatives. He stands for just about everything they seem to be against.
Wonder what they would they call Jesus? A liberal? Socialist-pig?
Give to the poor? Turn the other cheek? Harder for a rich man to get into heaven than a camel through the eye of a needle? Man, they'd string him up. Again!

First off, it's ignorant to read that passage and think of the political spectrum in the US. It was written during a time when the US wasn't even a phantom of an imagination, and also why would Jesus describe liars using a term from the political spectrum of a country that didn't exist? Second it insinuates that liberals are filled with these liars, and must watched carefully, so we can try to weed them out. It also gives conservatives a free pass because "Jesus didn't say they were liars" It's just a dishonest way to read scripture.
The Bible never touches on American politics thousands of years in the future.
You know, Jesus did say that the early church sold their possessions to give to each other and those with needs. It also said to help the poor and give up your riches. Sounds kinda like left wing socialism to me
