What makes a "True Conservative"

It's also the fact that journalists are as Robert Kaplan recently called them, "children of the moment." They are immensely short-sighted creatures with no sense of reflection.
To be fair, though, that's the reason journalists are journalists and authors are authors. I'd imagine it's probably difficult to combine complete backstory, current news, and analysis all in one news article. I'm not a journalist, though, so this is all imo. I guess my sense of reflection is too big to overcome for that profession, haha.

That is true. It is just that the frequent commentary or assumption is that the now is such a unique moment that it defies the past. This leads the average citizen to believe it all the more.

I personally don't know many who WANT to be unemployed, as it is damn boring.

I see them all the time, people who have never worked a day in their lives, who are physically fit, entirely uneducated and just get a check every month, mostly because they're idiots who are incapable of doing anything worthwhile.

Unrelated, but this also feeds into generational theory which I'm currently reading about. I've read that each generation collectively thinks they are more special/unique than the previous generation with several societal reasons named as supporting facts...not one of them being the media's treatment of news and current events.

Yes, that's true too, and a shame the media doesn't get enough of the blame, when we are willing to dish out blame on the media for many other reasons.

Each generation is seen as exceptional in that it's either the best generation, or the worst. Or, another example, "each generation thinks they invented sex."

Yup, that definitely applies to YOU.

Maybe the quest for a "true conservative" is a bad thing. Look at the Republican primary. Each candidate is trying to prove that they're "conservativ-er than thou", and they're saying some truly heinous things. Without that impetus to top each other and be the "real" conservative, there wouldn't by any hubbub about a war on women, and we would have a much easier time debating that actual merits of healthcare reform instead of just trying to outdo each other on how thoroughly they would destroy it.

Extremist ideology, no matter where it's coming from, is a dangerous thing, and I think this urge to be as conservative as humanly possible is leading towards extremism.

I have one in my family. Lost his job; went on the teet; been there for 3 years; writes me for "contributions". With the last "contribution" I sent a letter saying, get a job. Yes I know I shouldn't a contributed to his lazy a**, but it is family, and all contributions have stopped. So if he can't live on what he gets from the govt, then he needs to get a job, as I suggested.

It's actually pretty interesting...a co-worker of mine whose in his golden years had mentioned that the "New Left" basically turned him off during the 70's. He now says that the rhetoric level and tone of Conservatives now are pretty similar and it's really turned him off. By the wasy Socially he's pretty consevative (devout Catholic) but economically liberal.

It's generally a mixed affair in terms of results. You can make distinctions between you and your opponents, but if one carries it down the road logically, the lack of options starts to present itself. In the end, Republicans have to come back to a candidate that does not square with each issue, which seems to be the antithesis of what the populists want. Debating the actual merits of policy with the public, something that Nixon learned well enough, is quite the secondary affair to actually appealing to the emotions of your voter. In that sense, I do not hold nearly the same degree of, idealism or altruism about politics, that many here do.

The wealth of America is controlled by 10% of the population that's where the money is, correct me if I'm wrong, but bring proof with you.:peace

You make a claim like that and the guy disagreeing with you has the burden of proof? Thats some lazy ass debating technique there. How about you take a swing at proving your claim first.

Logic fail post.

Anytime pal, anytime ;unemployment numbers in America today, people living from 35, 000 down add that up.
People that are making 1 million+ a year add that up.
Then take the difference and get the %

Numbers don't lie.:peace

Maybe if you had some correlation and causation in there...but you not only do not, but you cannot ever provide them because the subject matter is incredibly complex and full of more moving parts than any machine ever built.

Thats why both your post and your reply are still rediculous. Its nowhere near that easy to prove what youre trying to prove. Or disprove it.

Ah the old double talk, distraction, where's your proof stuff , right out of the right wing manual.

I haven't heard so much at one time since McCain in August of 2008 saying America has a strong economy prove that we don't , McCain in September of 2008 said I support the bailouts America is in trouble economicly.
Or Nixon's old "Tapes what tapes" well gotta go.lol

Bottom line You want proof try the small towns of any state in America, try the projects in any big city, check out the homeless shelters and the unemployment lines.

You ask me to prove there are more poor people and middle class than rich in America???
Man you gotta get out more.:peace

Meaning you've got jack. No surprise there.

How does one be an extreme conservative?

Lord, what horse****

A conservative is one who believes that the government that governs least governs best. The less crappy government intrusion there is in how an individual conducts their life and business, the better and merrier

ON the other side, we have Liberalism which goes in the opposite extreme. More government control, less risk, less personal responsibility, less failure, but also less success.

Exactly. Those who create government programs like RomneyCare and ObamaCare do not represent me.

Which isnt proof. Maybe you need to get out more and learn how to post facts. You have yet to post any. Economic theory is a little more involved than you are leading people to believe. The problem right now is wage stagnation. Im going to run something by you, just to see the cut of your jib.

What happens when you tax those mean evil rich people? Careful, this is indeed a trap but only if you cannot understand economics.

Loughner is a true tea party conservative. "Lock and reload"

Meaning you've got jack. No surprise there.

15 TRILLION + NATIONAL DEBT, Student loans in trouble, credit card debt up, 93MILLION +iIOU to China 8.6 unemployment

Am I wrong?

Real estate still down
Auto sales recovering maybe? Chrysler stocks owned by Fiat
Budweiser stocks owned by some Flemish company
Imports going up exports going down.
Am I wrong?
So where's the money?:peace

Facts on paper don't mean **** out here.
What's next you gonna go into McCains old speech about America's strong economy, or old G.W's speech about "stay the course"?

I know a little about economics and the rich people got rich how?
Now that's a trick question cause without consumers or customers to buy the rich people's product the rich would lose money.
And judging by the American exports going out of America to be sold vs the foreign imports coming into America to be sold somebody is losing money.

It is the rich who should be cautious, on line trading is happening now, if one day shopping in China on line and purchasing on line and receiving next day orders without tariff, well that's globalization.

Free trade works both ways for the businessman and the consumers, if foreign trade ever figures out a way to drop the middle man the rich in America will join the rest of America:peace

You're going to blame obama for budweiser being owned by a flemish company. LOL.

All, I know is in 1999 America was not 15 trillion in National debt, Americas didn't owe the Chinese 93 million+ there was no bailouts in the 90's so between 2000 and 2012 somebody, somewhere ****ed up.

I would be more than happy to recognize any politician that wishes to take responsiblity for any part of what happened and will not judge.
Unfortunately no politician wants to take any responsibility so rather than think it's nobody's fault I prefer to think it is every politician that served between 2000 and 2012:peace

Neither represents the majority of Americans but it would be wise to elect the most conservative, and that would be Romney.
