What is the point?

It's a constant and needed reminder of the sheer stupidity of some of the people I share this planet with.
You need a debate forum to be reminded of THAT??

Yeah, I've learned more from debate than from lots of other ways I could have spent my life.
Debates on debate forums? IF they were real debates I could see your point.

That is because they have been taught about "alternative" facts and that truth isn't always the truth (Giuliani coined that one).

Yep, Trump, MAGA ended debate and replaced rebuttal with lies and far worse, made up crap.

No because you depict someone disagreeing with you as sitting on a toilet. Its crude, disrespectful but most of all exposes how utterly close minded you are.
Man oh man, is that what you got out of that meme? That it is me disrespecting people I disagree with? Holy moley!! Talk about being easily triggered. I was showing the difference between those who trust science and those who are getting their science from their cellphone. Did you take THAT meme personally?

Yes. It's like watching Fox and MSNBC engaged in argument. You can get a sense even from the behavior of the debaters when a lie has been uncovered.

Secondarily then, & principally now: I like the exchange of ideas, phrases, sharpened rhetoric.
I grant you that that is a lofty ambition, but wouldn't it serve you better to exchange ideas, phrases and sharpen your rhetoric with intelligent people? Know many on online forums that pass the intelligence test? (Besides myself of course)

Maybe so, but arguing the point might be futile when someone claims they don't see the lie, hence "what is the point?"

I never took a science class, hell, never went to college either. But simple logic and understanding, and the willingness to be open-minded has made me realize how science works. Reading does that as well, and I don't mean pulp fiction. I stay away from talk radio.
Those who make comments about how THEY think science works and then demonstrate by their words that they DON'T understand how science works, aren't worth debating with. As I quibbed in my OP - What is the point?
WE are living in a world that denies science, where there are alternative facts, and truths are based on what one "believes" to be the truth. So yeah, when someone tries to comment on how science works, I just respond with one of my favorite memes:

THAT meme can be extended to any scientific research such as the debate on Climate Change. It's happening, and it is largely caused by by Man's contributions to CO2 omissions, but those who don't believe the science will sit on the toilet and look up alternative opinions online and claim them as scientific facts.
Snowflake, haven't you said many times that the uneducated are destroying America? And you have never been to college?
I am not putting down those who haven't gone to college; living a great like certainly has nothing to do with educational level.
But I am surprised, after reading some of your previous comments, that you did not receive a college education.

Maybe so, but arguing the point might be futile when someone claims they don't see the lie, hence "what is the point?"
In that case, I do it for the audience.

Haven't you ever wondered why the cover-up of truth has progressed to the point it has? It was not always this way, not even in our lifetimes...

How has the truth been covered up moreso now than in former times? I would think it's the opposite.

Too many avenues claiming to have the truth, when they only have bits and pieces, and yet others have none...

How do you know who has the truth and who doesn't?

Your point is that we can't know what is true and what is false?

(See thread title.)
Not exactly...the cover-up, by something/someone is so stupendous, it takes a whole lotta deciphering, that few have the stamina for...

How do we know there's a coverup?

I listen, I read, I study. You don't need a college degree to be smart. You just have to get your mind out of Rightwing radio and Fox and stop believing anti-science rhetoric. As for your surprise, you could say I am well "read." Not sports magazines either. History. Sociology. Biographies. Science journals.
For EVERYONE here, being educated, as in self-educated, in being "smart" is a choice. Some people just make poor choices.

I don't need to wonder ;)
