What is Putins end game?

WRT Ukraine , I agree with those that think he is creating a buffer between his country and NATO and I think he will take the opportunity to make an example to deter others seeking either closer ties with the West and/or NATO membership.

The offer by the US to invite Georgia and Ukraine into NATO, a dead letter from the start, has proven to be a catastrophe and should never have been made imho
