What if Joe Biden was the better candidate all along?

Interesting article from The Hill....

With the Nov. 5 election just over a fortnight away, here is an intriguing thought experiment.

By most accounts, the election is still a horse race too close to call. But although Vice President Kamala Harris quickly assumed the presidential mantle from Joe Biden and put in place an impressive start-up, October has not been particularly kind to her. Donald Trump has closed the electoral gaps, and some believe he is actually leading.

No matter who wins, we have to ask: Would President Biden have been a better candidate and choice despite suffering from the effects of age and 81 years? Further, suppose that the disastrous June 27 debate with Trump had not taken place, or that Biden had been firing on all cylinders that night. Would Biden have been forced to withdraw? And whether Harris loses or wins, some will ask whether Biden might still have been a better candidate.

If he couldnt win, it doesnt matter. The right-leaning attempts at self-comfort are all yours...and for the most part, not troubling the left at all.

We can see this is a symptom of the right having the rug pulled out from under them, no longer able to cruise triumphantly towards election day. Now they have to find a way to cope with serious doubt.

And whether Harris loses or wins, some will ask whether Biden might still have been a better candidate.

"And if wishes were horses, beggars would ride."

Why is the right so desperate to find self-comfort? Just man up and accept you got outplayed in July and will have to wait until Nov 5 like the rest of us.

It is looking like the Democrats missed the timing of replacing Biden by a few weeks too early. The vibes couldn't sustain.

No way he could have won.

It doesn't matter. No matter what the outcome is, you will complain endlessly about Harris and Biden (along with Hillary, Obama and anyone else whose name you find triggering) while defending or deflecting for Trump. We know it, you know it, so there's no value in maintaining any charade about what questions you believe need to be asked.

"...an intriguing thought experiment..."? No. No, it's not.

If my Aunt had wheels, she'd be a bicycle. Things are where they are. Biden looked old and frail to the point where he was convinced to step down. The end.

It's striking how nearly everybody who was going to vote for Biden appears to be delighted and enthusiastic about Harris at the head of the ticket and her performance on the campaign trail--and how triggering this is for MAGA. I suppose it's an expression of their zero-sum politicking: they cannot be happy unless every last one of their political enemies is miserable, and they're really bothered by the fact that so many Democrats and Independents are actually extraordinarily happy to have Harris/Walz.

Hence, thread after thread by the @DrewPaul types about how horrible the DNC process was, how maybe just maybe Biden is actually better, and so on. They're miserable about Democrats being enthusiastic, so they try to shop their misery around. Sadly for them, they lack the self-awareness to realize that we all know exactly what they're trying to do, and why they're trying to do it, and none of us are buying it.

Nope. If Biden was still in, attacks against his age and mental state would be a daily thing. Now, it's a daily thing for Dementia Don.

Yeah, Kamala’s newness faded quick and buyers remorse is setting quickly.

You only wish it were. The Democrats are uber desperate for anything now.

What makes any democrat candidate viable is Trump being on the other side. They could have rehabilitated Biden (to some degree) if they really wanted to. Biden was a better candidate.

Now he’s not.

It's no where near often enough, IMO, within large media outlets.
I agree. They were relentless against Biden but they give Trump a pass almost every time.

No, Biden was too old and his stubborn refusal to accept that is what has endangered this race.

Only wish what? That Trump's mental decline would be covered seriously? It should be.

A vote for Trump is a vote for JD Vance. JD will be the 48th president probably sometime in 2025 (if Trump wins).

Maybe, but Biden choosing not to run was always the better play for the party, but it was out of the voters hands.

Interesting. I need to go find the post from a die hard that told me over and over and over that EVERYONE is happy with Harris instead of Biden. :ROFLMAO:

I bet his advisors and close allies talked him into it, they were like "you beat Trump before, we need you"...that's my guess.
I thought he made remarks that he didn't plan on running again, I believe it. Still, it was his choice, I just don't think he was being stubborn as the primary cause...I bet his bubble convinced him and themselves it was best if he ran again.
Just guessing.

Oh, they feigned happiness for a while….that slowly trailed to nothingness.

This was just like a couple of days ago. I even gave him a chance to walk it back, but he doubled down.

The cult is strong in them.

No one is triggered by this. Your pozts are just projection.
