Well, someone correct that problem, then.
Here's the difference, then:
A president of the United States, even one as bad as JFK was, is an important historical figure. The general public is going to want to know exactly what happened, and they have a right to know.
This guy on the luge is a nameless athlete to practically everyone, his death has no impact on anyone's life, outside of his personal circle of family and friends, and the only purpose See BS served was their salacious desire to be titillated by someone else's trauma.
Professional news services should not cater to the sense of shadenfrued (sorry, can't spell German, the sense of elation at the discomfiture and bad luck of others) but rather establish a reputation for presenting the essential and relevant facts. See BS hasn't been a professional news orgnanization for decades, not since Walther Cronkite decided to interject his personal views on the Vietnam War.
He's like Limbaugh, he purposely makes inflammatory remarks, aimed at provoking a reaction, so he gets good ratings. Beck is easily the most radical person on FOX, and as such, he really is a lot like Limbaugh.
I just e-mailed her the news. She was understandably upset by the revelation.
I don't disagree on the difference. The only thing I would add is that this was not limited to CBS. I know ABC and NBC showed it as well. I'm not sure if the cable networks did or not.
ABC still has a news show? Amazing! And gee, NBC put explosives in the gas tanks of cars to show how they explode...without telling anyone about the pyrotechnics...who would think they're not reliable, honest, and open professionally run news organizations, hmmmm?
Wait. See BS, ABC, and NBC all touted the Messiah and in general have been shills for whatever Democrat runs for office since Carter, haven't they? So who in their right mind wastes their time on them?
Yeah, whatever.
Anyone who dismisses Beck either hasn't watched the show or is too ignorant to heed his lessons. He ain't perfect, but if he wasn't good, the losers on the Left wouldn't be ordered to hate him.

Why don't you take your discussion on the relative merits of US TV new stations to the Media Bias section. What about the luge incident?
If Fox didn't show it, then good for them; a point in their favour.
Since, by the way, this thread is about media bias, and that's what I'm discussing, what's your big problem?

What about it?
AS I STATED, See BS is a crappy excuse for what was never a very good news organization and they aired the unnecessary detail because they're not a very good news organization, but an excellent propaganda organ for the Left.
Since, by the way, this thread is about media bias, and that's what I'm discussing, what's your big problem?
Perhaps in the sense of a bias towards more and more sensational news stories? No it isn't, read the title.
In the U.S. they do have a right to show it because it happened in a public venue, it was a factual event, and it doesn't violate FCC obscenity law. However that doesn't make it any less heinous to replay the event, it was bad enough that the luger lost his life in the accident, no need to show it and further the imagery for those that cared about him.So they have a right to show him die? No, they do not, and I'm sure the family of the athlete would prefer that the video not be shown on news.
The press isn't what it used to be, that is a given. Most of the best broadcasters are either retired or dead unfortunately. Many people mentioned the sensationalism aspect earlier, and unfortunately most news outlets are so biased that the shock card is the only way they can get a blip on ratings books now. It's a damn shame from two perspectives, 1) They are failing us so badly that news consumership is decreasing to dangerous levels and 2) Inhumane events like televising this unfortunate death will be the norm, not a fluke of bad judgement. The thread wasn't meant to imply that any one news outlet does this. It has a broader scope than that. Generally, I think that the media has lowered its standards over the years.

One station that does have a lot of class is NPR. They have excellent in depth coverage that I really enjoy.
Though quite a few of their correspondents have some of the dullest voices known to man
While I disagree with their overall politics, they do have a very good presentation, on that I agree. One station that does have a lot of class is NPR. They have excellent in depth coverage that I really enjoy.

Actually, most broadcasting schools teach to be concise with a midwestern accent, because it's blander than more regional one's it's readily identifyable to everyone, albeit it's pretty boring. Eh, what can you do?I was wondering if they have a rule to speak very slooooowly in order to be understood by foreigners. Our local public radio announcers speak as if English is the second language to all listeners.
Without sacred things....what I can imagine is not so good.I don't know what to think of that. If I was in the luger's family I'd probably be really upset about it being on television.Their feelings, sensitivities, should be primarily - the ghouls can go to hell
It is an interesting point about JFK. I remember watching a documentary last November where they showed his head exploding from the kill shot several times as if it was routine. This too is un-necessary, I agree with the Sgt.
I guess nothing is sacred anymore.
