I wonder if the fact that the % of recruits for the last three years with a post high school degree is much smaller than the total population reflects the fact that more educated people are now enlisting at a much lower rate, or that the advanced degree is obtained after recruitment.

I would assume the latter, as new recruits are generally 17-22 years old.

No for me. I don't care for John Kerry. I mean this guy waffled during his campaign, thank goodness he's not the president.

I do believe that he meant to say something else but then again I don't really care...

What I do care about is that this is an issue but John McCain's 'I'll commit suicide if the Democrats take control of the Senate' bad, tasteless, cynical, derogatory and down right offensive statement isn't.

We sure didn't see any shrill liberal Democrats trying to eat McCain alive after that. Yet somehow we Democrats are desperate.

Morrow, ietc....

All I can do is extrapolate given my experience, and knowledge of additional relevant factors. I may be abusing the term statistics, but that abuse is hardly anything other a misunderstanding. You seem to be under the impression I’m trying to ‘prove’ that the military is stupid. That isn’t the case, and you are ignoring the premise for my statement in the first place.

One in ten people use the GI bill. And your right, officers would have to be at least average intelligence. I admit my definition of intelligence is subjective. I’m stating an opinion, not asserting it as fact, so your objections are pointless. Additionally you respond to my arguments with logical fallacies, I can’t say I’m impressed with your response.

Lastly, I was in the military. So your attempt to discredit my opinion because I wasn't in the military was not only foul play, it was also wrong.

17 year old may no longer enlist. In 2002 we signed a UN treaty that raised the international age to 18. The DoD has changed their policy to reflect this.

star, first of all, you want people to interpret the statement in a manner in which it was not intended. I don't think that is fair. Next, how can a statement like that be representative of an entire party? When has anyone from the democratic party said anything like that (if it is interpreted in the manner in which it was not intended).

I think he's a complete douchebag.

There's really not much more to say than that.

Actually Aps, it is Kerry-apologists like YOU who are misinterpreting Kerry's statement.

FACT - Kerry said: "You know, education - if you make the most of it - you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Based on exactly what John Kerry said, he insulted the military.

What YOU, John Kerry's handler, and John Kerry want us to believe is some BS story about a flubbed joke that was concocted and given as an excuse AFTER the sh!t had already hit the fan! YOU want everyone to take Kerry not on what he said but rather on what he said he meant to say (as he explained while in full damage-control mode)! That is hilariously funny!

Kerry: "Don't judge me by my actions or even my words! Listen to my excuses after the fact and judge me by THOSE!"

I guess that is part of what Pelosi meant when she said, 'You have to treat Democrats differently from Republicans!' :rofl

What I would give to be able to clean house in DC...:sword:

1. i wasnt trying to impress you with my response. i was trying to get a point across that you seem to be under the same BS that mr. kerry is.
Morrow said:

2. by taking the side that you think the military is of lower intelligence, you are trying to prove that the military is "stupid".

Morrow said:

3. atleast i use logic, as opposed to outright lying. (are you referring to my statement about the employer and 2 applicants- as the fallacy?)

Morrow said:

4. This i cannot really argue, however i question its validity simply because if you really served in the military- you would know that its not full of dummies, and probably would not have compared it to a prison.

I agree with AcePylul who said,
“Unfortunately, as much as he might try, he can't run away from his own statements.”

The press however will defend him and so will his fellow Democrats. But this statement confirms what many though about him all along.
His statement had nothing whatsoever to do with Bush. And he said what he said, plainly clearly and loudly. He knows it too........I bet he didnt sleep to well last night. :rofl

I think he represents the majority of how Democrats think………on the issues. HOWEVER……I do NOT in any way think HIS statement represents the majority of Democrats and how they think about our military.

That is why I couldn’t participate in this poll.

I think he represents Democratic positions…….but his statement yesterday does not. As I said his statement affirms what a slime ball he is.

What gets me is that there are hard working, intelligent Democrats out there……..why do they sit in silence? To speak up would only strengthen the party. And by their silence…..it shows the American public that they either aren’t strong enough to speak out against this or that they agree with Kerry.

I can't believe that not one Democrat would be outraged over the statement.

Easyt65 said it best
…….“Kerry's remarks demonstrated his own ignorance as well as his continued disdain for the military, his continued willingness to take shots at the military for his own political and personal gain, and served only to dishonor the sacrifices of many men and women who have died in Iraq as well as those who serve more bravely than he ever did!”

Well said EASYT65 !!!!!!!!!!!!

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Everyone, please, I really need some help here. I guess I'm just a bit confused about this whole thing... but what's the joke? How is this even remotely funny? I don't get it. If you do, let me know.

I think it shows a lot about how some of the Democrats view the military. Not all, but definately some. Kind of reminds me of how they said the troops in Vietnam killed babies, despite a conspicuous lack of hard evidence that it was US troops that did the killing. But I digress.

I think this whole argument with the average level of intelligence of the military is rather inane. If you really want to see the average level of intelligence, go do mass IQ testing or something. Give them all quizzes.

I'm currently in a statistics class, and I can tell you one thing about the bell curve: Someone always fails. Sorry, but the bell curve system is a very bad way statistically to try and show how intelligent the troops are. You would do a lot better with a histograph...

Anyway, Kerry is just showing a little of his true self. His prepared text said:

“Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.”

Then came the Freudian slip. May I remind you, when he came back from his service in Vietnam, he joined the Vietnam Veterans for Peace. While that's fairly innocent in and of itself, he denounced his fellow Swift Boat veterans as war criminals, then at a protest in D.C., he threw someone else's medals at the White House. Someone else's. Interesting.

Fast forward to the 2004 elections. He tried to use his service in Vietnam (guess he was thinking ahead in keeping his medals) to claim status as a war hero. While I'm not going to try and debate what few facts there are about his service, I do find it interesting that when Kerry tried to use his service for political leverage, surviving members of his own Swift Boat team attacked his military record. Kerry never did apologize for using his former comrades in arms as political leverage. Considering how they took enough offense to make it public, he should have. If you're thinking that the commercials were made for political purposes, don't forget that Kerry was making his war service political first. Eye for an eye.

This same anti-military rhetoric has been spouted by numerous radical liberals. They don't represent the whole party, but the way the belief system is sliding, it might not be long before they do. Botched joke? More like botched excuse. And the public knows it.

Whether it harms the Democratic party or not isn't really much of an issue. I would guess it's a balance for the whole Foley scandal. Balance would be relative, but hey, that's politics. Personally, I think we would be better off without all these smear campaigns and partisan politics and instead vote for the people we believe would do what's right for this country. Why can't we all just quit bickering and start doing something? If anyone can answer that question, you will be awesome.

My 2 cents.

You misunderstood what I said. In prison there is a reverse of the bell curve for population intelligence. There are less average people than in the normal population, and more above and below average people than the average population. I postulated that some of my observations of people in the military could be accounted for in a similar manner. A chart of military members by a qualified means of measuring intelligence may yield such an inverse bell curve.

For the fourth time since I’ve posted in this thread, I didn’t say the military was full of “dummies”. I said a lot people in the military are below average. Which, as I pointed out, if the military is a perfect reflection of the civilian population, which it isn’t, by definition 50% of any body would be below average. I said 'a lot', which is an unqualified measurement.

I’m aware I may be posting in an unclear manner. But you do not seem to understand what I have said, or even attempt to. Which is apparent by your responses. Perhaps you could ask questions on my statements before jumping to conclusions.

I read some stuff on the bell curve, and I recognize there is contention, or even consensus, or its usefulness. It was a poor example on my part. It would appear to be as equally worthless as IQ. I shouldn't have tried to provide a theoretical explanation of my opinion.

I understand your arguement, and I'm glad you have recanted your bell curve example, because it simply cannot hold up.

I wrote my last post before I watched the 5:00 news.

I said previously that it was sad that the Democrats were not standing up and denouncing what Kerry said. I was wrong. They are in fact speaking up all over the country. For whatever the reason whatever their motivation might be, they are holding him accountable. So accountable that I believe Kerry even apologized on his website. What a chicken. But we all knew that didn't we?

Way to go Democrats !!!!!

However I wonder why Nancy Pelosi and Teddy Kennedy still remain speechless......they are always the first ones to pounce. :rofl

John Kerry does not represent Democrats as a whole. If any one person does, then it would definitely be Bill Clinton.

On a side note, where does Stinger get off calling himself a moderate, he is one of the biggest RNC apologists on here. If not the biggest, you would think he was on the party payroll. No offense, just pointing it out.

Also, Talloulou you seem to be a reasonable individual (one of the few on here), certainly you do not really think that the majority of Democrats believe that those who are in the military are stupid.

You see, ppl, Kerry just expressed well known and widely spread democratic theory (as usual no facts) that military is below average. Make sure that you read that Morrow and democrats and kerry are above military, and thus above average.... Kerry's view on military has been prononced and defended by the dems here for long time.

Since you want to talk about evidence, lets see you provide a quote of a prominent Democrat other than elitist Kerry that either states or implies that those in the military are stupid.

of course, we should talk about how bad is Stinger and how Talloulou has gone bad...
As another little kerry keeps on saying here - the real question is question WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD APPOLOGIZE?
I think Bush, Stinger and Talloulou should appologize, not Kerry and dems.

I just did - I quoted Morrow and then I quoted you. And anyone who has been on DP long enough can remember other dems expressing the same as kerry, Morrow -- I remember jfuh vs, SySgt as an example - SySgt - do you remember - if you have a chance to read this??

Are you insane or what? I never said they should apologize. I was simply taking a friendly jab at stinger, and asking Talloulou if she really thought that all Democrats believed that the military is stupid.

Dude what are you even talking about? Where did I say that servicemen are stupid? Where did I say that I supported Kerry's insulting remarks?

All I said was that Kerry and his latest insult are not representative of Democrats as a whole. Thats what I wrote. If you just want to invent ****, then go ahead, but no one is going to take you seriously.

Ooops! Wrong again Navy Pride! HO HO HO!

Yo know what's really fun? This poll is a public poll and everyone's votes are revealed. For example my vote was NO - I am a DEMOCRAT but KErry does NOT represent me.

Now how often have we all read posts from Navy Pride claiming over and over again that he's NOT a Republican? 1000? 3000? 5000? Well Navy has finally and once and for all admitted that he IS A REPUBLICAN! Check this out:

yes - I'm republican/conservative:
