Fox News is a major factor in why the Tea Party faction was able to bring America to the brink of defaulting on our debt and dragging our economy down into an economic crisis that would likely have been worse than the Great Recession. And Fox News has done its part in dumbing down its watchers, since sixty-nine percent of Tea Partiers believed that the U.S. "could go past the deadline...without major economic problems."

So it looks like Fox News will be all set to be the bullhorn for the lead lemmings the next time we get close to a government shutdown or default on our debt ceiling.

Which ever show it was on Fox first thing this morning admitted the TPers gained nothing, might actually have lost, but not enough to allow the Dems to take over the house next election.

Obama was going to play the EO card so it didn't matter what anyone did.

Thats really just amazing.

The shutdown was totally pointless, and it was obvious from the beginning that this was so. Everyone knew Obamacare was not changing, and the GOP gave up on it within a few days. The debt ceiling extension was even stupider, and I loved how the Senate GOP had to dump the people in the House (i.e. Boehner) and hammer out a deal on their own because the House is totally incompetent. So we get a shutdown, a decreased standing of the US in the view of the world, a rattling of world marktes, and a loss of billions in the economy for....what?

The Tea Party wing of the GOP is a joke, but its a bad, practical joke being played on the American people. Its time to get the grownups back in Congress, because its looking like this is a preschool gone awry.

The shut down was worth it. There was never a chance of the House forcing it's will on the Senate and the Executive branch. It demonstrated several things however. As Americans learn that Obamacare is more expensive than the plans they had, or that they got free health care at the emergency room but now have to deal with the IRS to get it, they will know that health care isn't free and that democrats screwed them. They also learned that the president is a petty tyrant who spent more money closing national parks and keeping veterans away from veterans memorials than the government would have by allowing them free access. They learned that we have a president that thinks taking handles off of drinking fountains is good fiscal management. They learned that this administration is incompetent and that Obamacare is hopelessly unworkable.

Did the shutdown change anything? Not today but in the future it was a bitch slap to the American people who will hopefully learn that an all powerful Federal government is harmful to the country and the real power should lay with the people.

Republicans lost the conflict. Most of them should go and so should all the democrats. My only hope is that they let Obamacare stand as written. Democrats are admitting that the bill needs to be fixed to work. I vote screw that, let it fail.

Great attitude "I would rather let something fail so I can gloat, rather than try to fix it so lessen the impact on people." That's how government should work right there I'll tell you, "We could adjust this law to make it hurt Americans less or we could propel it to failure, stand back and do nothing, and then use that as a means to pick up more seats next election."

I can't believe people actually want that from their politicians, if you think a law is terrible you should take every chance to lessen the impact it will have on people NOT just let it fail or attempt to make it worse so its just that much stronger of a talking point next election. That's a downright self serving attitude.

Ok, Fox and learn in the same sentence? I'm going to have to process that for awhile.

You do realize that we COULD have gone past the deadline (for a time) without major consequences right? You wouldn't have defaulted at the stroke of midnight.

Liberals are such idiots.

It's a spiteful group....I mean....the delay in the reinsurance tax was taken out because it benefited Unions.

I have absolutly no wish to gloat. I don't believe healthcare is a right. It's a product and a responsibility. The government has no place in managing my health care or forcing me to buy a product. The bill is not a healthcare bill anyway. It's an insurance bill whose goal is to force people to buy insurance and have the government subsidize indigents. It's a bill whose aim is to redistribute wealth and it's unintended consequences will be to dumb down our healthcare system by taking research money out of it and limiting choices that people have in treatment. Now bureaucrats will decide what appropriate treatment is like they already do in Europe. A Belgian friend of mine who had cancer had a difficult time moving around because she needed a hip replacement. The government told her that she wasn't going to get a new hip because she was going to die. Welcome to the new American health care system where the money spent on your treatment is no longer between you and your doctor.

Gloat about your victory

I don't know about spite but it seemed fair. Why give a delay to select groups and not individuals?...especially since healthcare.gov DOESN'T FN WORK...yet.

The reinsurance tax is paid by all individuals that receive insurance through their employer. The issue unions had specifically is that the way their plans are normally structured they have 2 or 3 or more providers providing different components of healthcare so they essentially pay the tax multiple times per person. They wanted to pay it once like everyone else. The delay was a "victory" for unions because it was a component of the healthcare plan they were lobbying to change.

Do you watch FOX at all? It is moving further and further to the Left on a daily basis. O'Reilly has become a Left leaning moderate, Greta is becoming a ladies' gossip and "News of the Cute" show and The Five is now buried somewhere unknown.

I would like to learn more on this 'reinsurance tax'. Can you point me to the 'best' source for this?

Ok, I understand more. I agree that paying the $63 fee multiple times per individual isn't fair. Instead of delaying this (which would still be unfair) why didn't they just provide an amendment to limit the fee to 'one per person' NOW?

Thank you for your intelligent and reasoned response. You are truly a courageous internet typist.

Uh-oh.
Those pesky demographics are beginning to catch up with FOX.
As the grumpy-old-fart demo dies off, FOX will have to pander to another group.
Probably the young, hip 54-65 year old demo.

Though I cannot say for sure, it might be a bad idea to keep kicking this can down the road into election season for the midterms. I would think letting it pass and trying to do something positive would be in order to get america back on their side, but if they want to go down that road they might find that america decides to have a functioning congress and gives the house to the dems and opens the floodgates for the only party that actually stands for something. Even if you think it is the wrong something at least they stand for it and are not running against everything. The party of no ideas had better come up with some ideas.

Keep in mind the delay would apply to all individuals. It wasn't a delay specifically for unions. It was nixed because it would benefit unions and was an issue they were fighting for. There's no way an amendment that would just benefit union members (I'm sure with some CEO's or others with similar style of packages) would pass the House.

Great anecdote. Anyway the European systems work far better than the American one, they cost less and provide better service to more people there's really no argument other than an ideological one to say the American system is better.

REALLY? Gee, that's funny, because the people who WOULD determine what happens to our national credit rating are saying something completely different:

But there was no stronger pressure on GOP House members to buckle than the knowledge that independent credit agencies like Standard & Poor’s and Fitch were poised to downgrade America’s credit score.

Key to making such decisions is John Chambers, the global head of S&P’s sovereign ratings committee and a member of the team, led by colleague Nikola Swann, that marked down America’s debt rating in 2011, from AAA to AA+. This time, if the House Republicans had not blinked, Chambers noted that S&P would have been forced to cut the debt rating again.

If the government does discontinue debt-servicing, unless it is cured immediately, it goes into ‘selective default’,”said Chambers, citing S&P sources close to the heated talks in Washington. “Selective default” is the lowest of S&P’s 20 grades of untrustworthiness. How many countries are currently in selective default? Only Grenada.

We were hours - perhaps minutes - away from going into 'selective default', which is a LOWER credit rating than Zimbabwe, North Korea, Myanmar, Somalia...you get the picture. But perhaps you're one of those who think that credit ratings somehow don't matter.

You realize that is not the same as actually defaulting on the debt right? That is a credit rating label nothing more.
