Just look at the states that went for the GOP in 2010. As soon as the so called fiscal hawks got into power the far right Jesus freaks and law and order rednecks started coming out of the woodwork. Next thing you know states voting districts where changed around to the favor of the GOP, Anti immagration laws to the right of Ghengas Khan where mandated and the most anti abortion laws since Roe vs Wade was passed. In Montana the right wing freaks even wanted to roll back the medical marijuana laws which Swietzer vetoed. The jesus freaks got their way with the un American DOMA which is unconstitunial and will be thrown out.

So with all these facts I would like to hear it one more time right wingers. Are you or are you not just about the economy? If you are about dracionian social views we want to hear it. Americans do not like right wing views on social issues unless you live in rural,bible belt or redneck states. The fact is 52% of Americans support gay marriage in spite of so many unpopulated redneck states which voted down gay marriage. 54% now support marijuana legalization and that number is growing each year. You can not tell me right wing social issues represent the majority of Americans. Will you or will you not tell the Jesus freaks to kiss off if you get elected on fiscal policy? Roe v Wade wasn't "passed", and despite all the support claimed by supporters of pot legalization and gay marriage - both get voted down by the people time and again. What you're noting is that if we ask the people, they say no, but if we hammer the courts for long enough, they'll eventually say yes.

But if you really want to know about policy, here's the deal - it exists on a spectrum, just like it does for the 'left wingers'. Some are full on Ralph Reed diehards about social policy, some, like me are more libertarian, live and let live. You can't control your radical elements either. That's what makes them radical elements.

There will always be people on both sides who are out of touch even with their side. A "fiscal hawk" such as myself.... I guess you can call me one, in that I seek the size of government to be reduced, and its control over its people to be loosened.

What often amazes me, is that with so many on the left decrying the social issue people on the right and their control issues over morality, yet the progressive left seeks so much control over the public in legislation and regulation. So many limitations on how we do business, how we eat, where we can enjoy legal habits such as smoking.... increased 1st amendment restrictions. Its more or less the pot calling the kettle black.

FWIW, I am not a member of the GOP because they have abandoned good fiscal common sense and a conservative approach to it, foreign policy and in a certain sense, social issues. I can only speak for myself, but I am not backing the GOP and will not be voting for Romney. (not voting for Obama either) So I guess James, there is your answer from this Fiscal Hawk.

Reagan didn't start the war on drugs.
Drug testing is a valuable resource that keeps costs down and (by direct relation) consumer prices as well.
What personal freedoms did he stomp on to get back at hippies?
What right was lost by requiring that employees pass drug tests (at the employer's complete and total discretion) in order to acquire a paid position, exactly?
