We’re not bending the curve

are you taking into account population? just wondering because New York has a ton of cases/deaths (and population) while North Dakota doesn't.

North Dakotans know to wash their dang hands.

you mentioned heat. is North Dakota hot now?

Nope.......

Texas has plenty of High populated cities since it's our 2nd most populated state

Are you suggesting that travel is analogous to interpersonal interactions? Do you have any data to back that up?

That should be obvious.

If you don’t have it, you’re not likely to get it if you stay home.

They’ve been telling you that in these briefings for at least two weeks now.

did you know there are only about 6 times more people in North Dakota than attend a football game at the Big House in Michigan.

North Dakota is 6 football stadiums. that's always seemed crazy to me. huge state. very few people.

Just yesterday Dr Deborah Birx stated
“Well, I’m telling you, I’m still missing 50% of the data from reporting,” she said. “I have 660 (thousand) tests reported in. We’ve done 1.3 million. … So, we do need to see — the bill said you need to report. We are still not receiving 100% of the tests.”
This statement was given in regards to a question of how many false negatives are they finding with the tests.

If they only have 50% of the test results it is really hard to give an accurate answer.

The disorganization is just pathetic.

This was the most alarming part of the briefing yesterday.

We are not bending the curve.

I work in the road construction industry, a job that still takes me out on the road most days. Fortunately, social distancing is relatively easy to maintain.

However, in my travels, I have seen a lot of very disturbing things. I have noted on this forum, that my first hand experience tells me that the degree to which the precautions are being observed vary widely, even in my state, which is supposed to be on a stay at home order for any non esssential industry. (I expect to be laid off when this tightens, Notice I say WHEN, not IF).

I have seen the crowd at the convenience store standing around like they usually do on ordinary mornings. No signs of social distancing or protective wear. The topic is the virus, but they all seem to think it’s something happening somewhere else on their TV, and not their real lives. Ditto Wal Mart.

Then there’s the hardcore Trumpster crowd here, which shouts its belligerant denials all day long and collectively whistles past the graveyard.

Someone posted a thread here regarding which big city is next.

To me, that’s not the worst of it.

The worst of it is what is going to happen when this plague roars through the small towns, medium sized cities and rural areas of this country.

My personal observation is that people in rural areas are taking this thing a lot less seriously (in terms of their own precautions) than the urban population is. I have seen this first hand, and not just once. It’s very consistant.

So I was alarmed, but not surprised to see this map. It’s behind a paywall in the Times. Ordinarily I would not share it, for fear it might be a rules infraction.

But I think we all need to see it, and take stock of our own personal precautions.

There is danger ahead when you read this map.

Serious danger.

here, try this. why don't those cold states in the Midwest have tons of cases? why does Florida have cases?

I didn't know that. I don't follow football.

So should the response in North Dakota be exactly the same as the response in New York city?

Deborah Blix was the one who sounded the alarm. She’s th4 one who said people are not listening.

i’m out in the field, and I see it first hand.

That should be obvious.

If you don’t have it, you’re not likely to get it if you stay home.

They’ve been telling you that in these briefings for at least two weeks now.

But Wyoming has been traveling for 3 or 4 weeks longer than Ny or California etc. Why is their case number not exploding?

Seems travel is not a good single analog for infection...

only in areas of concentration. hell, most people there probably don't see people but twice a century.

You said it, own it, or take it back. Hoping for an explosion of a disease anywhere is disgusting.

you totally lied about me. you should man up and admit it.

hell, everyone can see the words that were typed. it's not like you can hide.

So travel in, say, ND is fine to be at close to normal rates. Perfect.

This OP map is garbage.

What do they have compared to NY?

I just say 144 deaths in all of Fl?

Compare to NY?

In a week, that number will be a faded memory

The good news is we're entering the month of April which ends the normal Flu season

Too bad it's not the flu...

And it seems like its quite happily spreading in the southern hemisphere.

Where its summer.

"i'm waiting for this thing to explode in the South. Huge Fox News watchers and hard heads about this virus."

Such eagerness in those words, and I'm not hiding anywhere. I called your words disgusting which they are.

Here is our objective. Knock this virus out as fast as possible so that the United States can get back to normal. If it hides in pockets and springs back up that doesn't do anyone any good.

If someone from North Dakota is infected toward the end and travels to New York City and reinfects thousands of people that doesn't do any of us any good.

Or, you know, I understand population.

Yes, like Texas and FL for example being our 2nd/3rd most populated state?

More populated than NY(LOL)

Think of it this way, while some places have fewer people and are not packed as tightly if the virus hits such an areas they are less prepared for an influx of patients in the few hospitals they have. Does not matter if you live in the great wide open if you are nullifying that advantage by reducing the space to a foot. Be smart or learn a hard lesson
