We’re not bending the curve

of course it matters what the number is. holy ****.

No, not in the scope of this conversation it doesn't.

But is anyone really surprised you couldn't keep up mentally? No....no they aren't.

The virus.

The virus is not going to go away, so the majority of people who are not immune will get it eventually. Nobody is immune at this point. Hopefully recovered people and withing 2 years, vaccinated people will have immunity.

Would those total number of infections be exactly the same in the middle ages without a media with the same populations?

I stated a fact... you respond by presenting some random link for me to click onto? Naw... that is OK.

you claimed it was a bad flu.

you made that up, and called it a fact.

yeah, the number doesn't matter. who cares if a million die versus 2 million dying.

strictly using stats and completely leaving the human element out of this conversation is stupid.

now, would that number (total deaths) be the same if we're in the middle ages with no media (no way to get the word out quickly) and the same population everywhere? go ahead. you can answer.

Again, not in the scope of the conversation,

No worries, you are out of your depth here, it's ok to admit it.

You want me to answer a question that is unanswerable at this point, that's how out of depth you are.

the card is no cleaner than the cash was.

When I was at Sportsman's Warehouse, they scrubbed the card reader with disinfectant every time a customer used one. It was tedious, but it seemed far more cleanly than cash.

okay. i see you won't answer.

that's fine.

Not necessarily, in many of those red areas, the distance to the grocery store is simply much further.
Where I live, I have 6 grocery stores, a walmart, Sam's club, and a Costco, within 3 miles.
For my Sister in the Country it is 15 miles to the small town store, and maybe 30 miles to a large grocery store or a Walmart.
What I can do, driving 5 miles, could take her 50 miles of driving to accomplish.

The OP infographic shows us the change in travel. So if people were driving longer distances before in rural areas, that's already baked in. The map gives us a rough idea of how much people are changing their behavior to address the crisis. Those bright red areas on the map are acting just like they were before. They're not taking this seriously. They're getting people killed.

It could also be that those areas are not under any restrictions...yet!
I would be cautious anyway, but blue sky country is different.

I do not understand "without a media".
Modern spread of a novel virus would be expected to be a little slower due to better hygiene. In both cases more widespread in high density populations.

I get an F at “prepping.” No matter how hard I try, there’s always something I need from the store. If nothing else I’m becoming familiarized with desanitizing protocol.

Isn't that how it works? I'm in the same boat, luckily, I am able to go whenever I want (work from home) and typically, I'm in and out in 10 min or less...but it sucks going in, coming back going, oh ****, yea, needed this....

To a degree I am lucky... I stocked up for myself and my two daughters for three months or so of food, six months of water, etc batteries, matches, candles, etc etc NOT because I am a prepper but because I am a little OCD and like stocked shelves so I have been like this for ten-fifteen years. The lucky to a degree part is that my daughters were in their mom's 50% of our custody when we shut down so they are over there and they need to stay in that bubble meaning all that stock is now for just me... I am set.

This was the most alarming part of the briefing yesterday.

We are not bending the curve.
We are in WA St, the earliest state hit and the earliest to take measures to flatten that curve.

They're discussing it on the news right now, that we are the example to look at.

And the end result is the same. Contact with others.

It's flat moronic to suggest people drive around without stopping and without contacting others.

Wow, I do that all the time...it's gorgeous around here and I love to see how other farm properties are set up. I take my dog and we go. We may get out on a trail somewhere but not around people (havent done this since cv crisis started). People here can still go see the tulip fields up in Mt Vernon and cherry blossoms, long-time traditions. "Scenic drives" are called that for a reason. People can bring lunch, etc. if they need to.

She was depositing her tenant's rent check. This exchange started out not being silly.

Same here. And I used the drive up ATM and had hand sanitizer right there in the car.

you do understand that the media (and things like the internet) get the word out on things like this virus, hurricanes, etc, right?

That’s what we do. Now that my work flow has been upended, I have time to take Champ out to Susquehanna State Park and walk trails.

What percentage of "regular traffic" do you figure is people going nowhere during a pandemic?

More since it's a pandemic and the places to go are restricted.

Sunday drives used to be 'a thing'.

What percentage of regular traffic?

I dont know, I'm sure it's different everywhere. I dont even know in my area, since I'm rural and cant see it.

What criteria would you like me to use?

It's not 1% and thereby not relevant to the data.
