I was listening to the radio when a caller made a really good argument. What if the left was using the whole Catholics against birth control thing to distract voters. I mean to be honest I was surprised it made it to the news much less became such a talked about thing, since it is typical of the Catholic church to have problems like this and it normaly doesnt get played over and over again on the news.

Maybe the whole thing was the left just trying to find a good place to attack the right in the abortion argument. Certainly the left blew it out of proportion (as did the right afterwards) saying republicans want to ban birth control (which is a lie, not even santorum has said that, all he said was that states could outlaw birth control, but none will).

So could it have just been a stick to beat the right with as the election draws closer?

Before all the liberals out there burn me at the stake I know conservatives do this as well and I dont think this just becuase I tend to lean conservative. Just curious on everyones thoughts.

i think that's just silly. abortion is something the left doesn't feel needs to be discussed, but it is something the right pays lip service to in every election. and for the record, santorum is against birth control, period. he believes it is morally wrong. the clip of him espousing that idea, i'm sure, will be broadcast again and again should he become the nominee. a large percentage of women would not vote for him.

Honestly, watching with little interest in the bill itself, it looked like both sides were trying to keep it alive and in the news. I think the caller was just wearing partisan glasses.

That is the modern news media. They want to get as much mileage out of an issue they possibly can. If it isn't news they will emotionalize it in some way to make it jucier.

You of course are right Santorum is against contraception becuase he as a Catholic believes it is wrong, but he DOES NOT want to outlaw it! The left wants to make this seem like "dont vote for santorum, he's going to take your birth control away" which of course if crazy talk.

Yeah I admit I think the republicans wanted to use it too but if I had to decide who made more damage I would go with the libs.
