[W:#23,579]Ukraine War Thread

>Russia is looking to take its aggression beyond Ukraine, and reduced U.S. support will force European countries to work together to confront this threat, a Kyiv think tank said. As the Trump administration previously said that the United States should no longer be Europe's primary security guarantor, Europe requires substantial and sustained defense investments to address the threat posed by Russia, the KSE said. "Russia is preparing capabilities that are clearly not tied to war in Ukraine, including naval forces for a possible confrontation in the Arctic," said report co-author Pavlo Shkurenko. Despite Russia experiencing economic problems, a lot of resources poured into its military industry. That much spending in the military sector is creating circumstances for them to threaten Europe and beyond. The KSE report's conclusion aligns with Zelensky's message that the cost of supporting Ukraine's defense is minimal compared to what Europe would face if Ukraine were to fall.<

Europe needs to get serious about self-defense and by extension, the defense of Ukraine.

>The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with 350 ASRAAM air defense missiles. The delivery will be funded from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets. As Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated during the NATO summit in The Hague, the country will provide 350 ASRAAM air-to-air missiles. The delivery will be funded from £ 70 million received as interest from frozen Russian assets. The Prime Minister emphasized that it is Russia that must be held accountable for the "barbaric and illegal war," and using funds from its assets is a fair step. “Russia, not Ukraine, should pay the price for Putin’s barbaric and illegal war, so it is only right we use the proceeds from seized Russian assets to ensure Ukraine has the air defense it needs,” he said.<

Europe keeps kicking the frozen Russian assets question down the road. Stop worrying over trivial details and decide on how to spend the $300+ billion on Ukraine.

>It appears that the vast majority of Russian soldiers joined the front lines to earn an income. Soldiers are effectively bought for cash, exploiting the economic hardship of depressed regions. In 2024 alone, Moscow spent nearly $2 billion on "recruitment bonuses", and total annual military spending reached nearly $33 billion.<

Informative article on how/why most Russian males wind up in Ukraine.

>A senior Ukrainian lawmaker who nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize has withdrawn it, as peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow slip under the radar and the president keeps his sights fixed on the Middle East. Oleksandr Merezhko, the head of Ukraine's parliamentary foreign committee, told Newsweek on Tuesday he had "lost any sort of faith and belief" in Trump and his ability to secure a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv. Trump is "is evading—he is dodging—the need to impose sanctions on Russia," Merezhko said. Merezhko said Trump had "virtually no reaction" to recent large-scale strikes on the Ukrainian capital, adding: "He has chosen the path of appeasement."<

Trump will never punish Putin for his continuation of the war. Putin is Donald Trump's ideological darling.

Trump Says US Will Push For More Ukraine Air Defense But Offers No Word On Further Aid

“We're going to see if we can make some [Patriots] available,” Trump said on June 24 when asked by a reporter if he would sell air defense systems to Ukraine. “They're very hard to get. We need them too. We were supplying them to Israel.
