[W:#23,579]Ukraine War Thread

I think the core of the problem is that neither Yermak nor Zelenskyy will kiss Emperor Trump's ring.

They both have law degrees, and hands-on experience (Zelenskyy-Kvartal 95 Production Company. Yermak-Garnet International Media Group.) in the entertainment industry.
He wields immense power and influence

A key Russian weapons manufacturing plant in Russia’s Tula region that had only recently been visited by the Russian dictator himself has halted operations after being targeted by Ukrainian drones twice in the past 3 days. Ukraine launched two successful drone strikes on the Shipunov Instrument Design Bureau (KBP) in Tula—within the span of 72 hours, forcing the facility to suspend operations entirely. The factory is a key part of Russia’s high-precision weapons production.

As if this is some kind of surprise revelation.....

Putin declares ‘all of Ukraine is ours’ in latest blow to peace talks - and hints at nuclear threat

>Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered himself as a Middle East mediator to end Israel's "Operation Rising Lion" against Iran, but for Moscow the escalating conflict could also see another instalment of what could be termed "Operation Falling Influence."<

The Assad dictatorship in Syria is no more, and now the Khamenei regime in Iran is about to fall.

>Ukraine's Ministry of National Unity said in a statement that multiple citizenship was "a strategic step to preserve the unity of the Ukrainian nation in the face of war, global mobility, and a large diaspora." Oleksiy Chernyshov, Ukraine's minister for unity, said he hoped the legislation would restore the country's ties with members of the global Ukrainian diaspora. His ministry said 90 percent of Ukrainians abroad were in countries where multiple citizenship is allowed.<

From 50 million in-country at independence in 1991, the in-country population today is ~32 million with a diaspora of ~25 million.

>The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, laid claim to the entire territory of Ukraine, explaining this by saying that Ukrainians and Russians are supposedly "one people," the head of the Kremlin made this statement during the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. The head of the Kremlin also cynically added that Russia has an "old rule: wherever the foot of a Russian soldier steps, that is ours."<

Donald Trump? Are you paying attention?

>China has become the primary supplier to Russia's military-industrial complex, and may have already begun supplying lethal weapons, The Economist reports. One examined drone reportedly contained only two American parts out of 15 total. Beijing rejected some of Moscow's requests for equipment and support, avoiding large-scale shipments of ammunition or lethal weapons to prevent triggering US or EU sanctions. "But there are signs that China has approached (in the supply of lethal weapons - ed.) - and possibly crossed that line," The Economist writes. "In practice, Chinese weapons are far less vital to Russia than Chinese components and tools," the media outlet notes. Furthermore, Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service says Russia plans to manufacture 2 million FPV drones this year, relying heavily on Chinese components.<

Chinese assistence will increase now that Iran's MIC is in tatters. Ukraine says the 150 Chinese citizens are fighting with Russian forces. In an embarassment to Beijing, two Chinese were captured by Ukraine earlier this year.

KYIV, June 21 (Reuters) - President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called on Ukraine's Western partners to allocate 0.25% of their GDP to helping Kyiv ramp up weapons production and said the country plans to sign agreements this summer to start exporting weapon production technologies.
In remarks released for publication by his office on Saturday, Zelenskiy said Ukraine was in talks with Denmark, Norway, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania to launch joint weapon production.

>The administration of US President Donald Trump, behind the backs of its allies, discussed with the Kremlin a draft resolution at the UN on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. But the decisive actions of Ukraine's partners thwarted Washington's attempt to pass the necessary document for the US, Le Monde reports. On February 21, US Chargé d'Affaires at the UN Dorothy Shea told representatives of France and the United Kingdom that Ukraine should withdraw its draft resolution. The United States intended to introduce its draft and expected Europe to support the American document. As it turned out, the Trump administration discussed this document with representatives of Russia, the aggressor country, behind the backs of European countries and Ukraine. In February, the United States voted against Ukraine's resolution condemning Russian aggression. Washington voted unanimously with Russia and Belarus, while even some Kremlin sympathizers decided to abstain. The next incident occurred on April 16, when the UN General Assembly supported a resolution mentioning Russian aggression against Ukraine. The United States also voted against the resolution. This put the United States in line with such countries as Russia, Belarus, Niger, Nicaragua.<

The Trump administration is ideologically aligning the United States with many of the world's worst dicatorships.

>Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia allegedly does not plan to capture Sumy. However, he cynically added right away that he "does not rule out" such a possibility. Specifically, the Kremlin leader stated that Russia allegedly plans to create a "security zone" along the border of Ukraine’s Sumy region, 10 to 15 kilometers wide. "We do not have the task of taking Sumy, but I do not rule it out," he added. When asked by the forum moderator why Russia even needed this "security zone," Putin complained that Ukraine had greatly frightened Russia by attacking the Kursk region. After that, he claimed, Ukraine began threatening two more Russian regions.<

Putin conveniently fails to address the fact that he invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Sans the Russian invasion, UKR forces would not have captured portions of Kurst as a tactical ploy.

>Sweden scrambled military aircraft in response to Russian fighter jets spotted over the southern parts of the Baltic Sea. Swedish Armed forces spokesperson Mikael Ågren said two JAS Gripen planes were deployed over Skåne and Malmö in response to the Russian aircraft which did not violate the airspace of NATO's newest member. The incident follows a series of Russian aircraft spotted flying in the region during NATO military exercises over the last two weeks and a warning by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul of further operations by Moscow to destabilize the region.<

Very good. Keep the Russians at arm's length from NATO territory.

>The United States, under the leadership of Donald Trump, is gradually moving away from global leadership and abandoning its anti-Russian strategy, according to Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. Podoliak stated that the recent decision by the Trump administration to liquidate the group under the U.S. National Security Council, which was involved in developing sanctions, is part of a larger-scale policy revision. According to media reports, the administration of Donald Trump in recent weeks has in fact ceased the work of the interagency group that was supposed to form a strategy for increased pressure on Russia.<

One by one, Donald Trump is liquidating departments and agencies within the United States government charged with (1) protecting the US against Russian influence operations and election meddling and (2) developing more stringent sanctions that force Russia to seek peace in Ukraine. In effect, Donald Trump is aligning the United States with not one, but two wanted war criminals ..... Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu.
