[W: 2,672] Biden Steps Down

He has the energy and vigor of a teenager. He proved that during the RNC speech.
He can't hold a thought. So what is the difference? He always talked more and said less.

Biden didn't endorse Kamala.

Please don't let it be Hillary.

Please don't let it be MIchelle O

Actually, I can't think of anyone good. They're all bad.
Perhaps you would prefer Putin?

There isn’t anything wrong with his leadership style. He has a solid record of accomplishment.
He does and has put together a fantastic team with Blinken, Raimondo etc.
Unfortunately, his is not a creature of the trivialized news cycle cartoon world of television.
A leader has to inspire confidence and the inability to do so is an insurmountable hurdle.

Don't be sad. The president did a lot for this country. But he isn't doing well. I really fear another four years would kill him.

He can retire with grace and he is doing what's best for the country, not what's best for his ego.

That takes guts.

Yes. It’s quite honorable, what he did.

Who said she is next in line? If she is, I hope it is Hunter Biden so they can reuse all the Biden-Harris shit. I bet the democrat leadership, racists that they are, really would want Hunter Biden as POTUS and Harris as the VP just to get some more votes.
Stupid ****ing post.

Ten minutes after hearing the news, I continue to have a growing sense of relief. We just didn’t need to see a United States President, through no fault of his own, publicly embarrassed with seemingly each new public appearance.

I’ll add to my earlier note of thanks and say thank you to the Democratic leadership for putting pressure on the likes of Jill and Hunter Biden to face reality.

The blacks started as soon as talk of Biden stepping down stated. They want Harris, period, or else.
Straight racism.

She is a terrible choice.

Now Biden has endorsed her. The party is as ****ed as it was. She can't win.
She's the best choice and she has a very good chance of beating the convicted felon. She will keep Biden's vision for America going strong.

To me, the next four years were never an issue. I did not necessarily believe that Biden would have made it all the way through.

The next four months are the critical ones.

Wrong and wrong.

Here are some good choices (if its not Harris):
Josh Shapiro
Gretchen Whitmer
Andy Beshear

They could serve at the top of the ticket or as VP.

Does this mean the coronation of Harris?
New York Times reports Biden has endorsed Harris. What about Biden's committed delegates? Will there be a floor fight at the convention?

No link yet!

EDIT:

It's not just what he said, but what he didn't say. Clearly not something he wanted to do but probably fears staying in would hurt down-ballot elections due to loss of support from big donors and just dampened enthusiasm. I think he made the right decision, and it took both courage and class to make it.

Stepping aside doesn't guarantee a Democratic victory in November, and just as there's a lot that could go wrong had Biden stayed in the race, there's a lot that could still go wrong now that he's out.

First and foremost, though, Biden is going to have to find it within himself to urge his supporters to support the nominee and to support whatever process they decide to use to select that nominee. Between now and his address that he ultimately gives to the nation, he's going to have to give people the impression that he supports whoever the nominee is and that his supporters should do the same, no matter how they feel about his exit and the manner in which he was pushed out.

As for the 'what now'? I want Harris to be the nominee. Although votes for Biden are not votes for Harris per se, they kinda are in the sense that everyone assumed she'd be part of the ticket. She has the most legitimacy of any big name that's out there. The tricky part is 'the how' of it. I think the Dems should have an open convention, but I'm going to hope that there's ultimately a consensus that Kamala Harris is best positioned to be the nominee that can tie the different strands of the party together. If she ends up not being the nominee, it's going to end up looking like a conspiracy to satisfy big-name donors or something else, and it's not going to be a good look.
