Violence has long been weaved into the fabric of the American left, and until we honestly reckon with that, a bleak political future awaits.

Liberals don't allow/permit any such talk as this.
Actually, liberals very much DO. These are not liberals you are dealing with in this forum, and it is high time people stop calling them that.

You should review this thread attached, page by page. Look for phrases like 'Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy" and the like.

Some of the posts are irreverent, I agree, but I don't see anyone 'cheering'. You certainly are in no position to protest.

A Minnesota State Congresswoman was skilled three months ago by an ardent fundamentalist.

Last year you joked about Paul Pelosi getting attacked by a maniac.

No one is fooled by this charade VySky.

All the while @VySky has an avatar celebrating the murder of Americans by traitors.

A whole lot of people.

Like you guys cheered Jan 6, Paul Pelosi, the Minnesota lawmaker killings, not to mention Tree of Life synagogue killings. I don’t think you people have any high ground to stand on

Isn't expressing an opinion about his assassination an expression of free speech? Of course it is. So, it's OK for Kirk to joke about Paul Pelosi's brutal beating, but it's not OK to say how we feel about someone getting shot.

So many double standards here.
Yes. And I'm using speech to rebuke those people for celebrating murder. I think that's a healthier way of dealing with speech you don't like than murdering someone. Don't you?

I didn't cheer any of those things.

In 2023, Kirk said that gun deaths were "worth it" to ensure the preservation of Second Amendment rights in the US

Just like supporters of criminals stated "we don't know the motive behind the Charlotte attack" they are following up with Obama stating the same thing about the Kirk murder.

We know the motive. Its the seed the left sewed has blossomed. The dog whistle has been heard. And our country will no longer be the same.

So be it.

As President Trump said years ago.

"Stand back and stand by"

----------------------------------------------------------

"But I was doing my best to Kubler-Ross my way through this — I’ve met Kirk and generally thought highly of him — but I didn’t really snap until I saw Obama put out a statement:"

"Anyway, I am DONE. If you have ever excused or condoned violence or knowingly consorted with those who have, and I don’t care one whit if you’re someone as lofty as Barack Obama, you need to be driven from polite society. I will happily engage in the ritual malediction of saying that call to ostracize obviously extends to forces on the political right. Except I do so knowing that no matter how much corrupt Democrat leaders cook the stats to pretend right-wing violence is a serious threat, nothing the right has ever done comes close to setting off five bombs a day for 18 months straight, proceeding to terrorize the country for more than a decade, and then electing new generations of politicians that knowingly excused this insane level of violence."

"After January 6, Democrats and their allies did everything from raiding the former president’s home on dubious pretexts to algorithmically shutting off the ad revenue of any right-of-center publications they perceived as enabling Trump to kicking thousands of ordinary citizens off of social media. They corrupted the judicial system to the max to deal with rioters at the Capitol — many J6 defendants were given harsher sentences for nonviolent crimes than the prosecution asked for. And this came after Democrats not only refused to prosecute violent rioters following the mass destruction in the summer of 2020, they gave out $80 million settlements to rioters who encountered police as a way of rewarding the left-wing agitators they viewed as useful in undermining Trump’s reelection chances. It’s hard to escape the fact that encouraging violence, unequal justice, and repression is just another tool in the left’s political toolbox."

The Confederate flag in your avatar reflects the long history of racial violence woven into the fabric of American life.

Back in the day, there was only one party that stood for equal rights, and that was the American Communist Party.

The Right does not care about hypocrisy. The Right cares about power and about winning only.

They will adopt whatever stance gives them the most political ammunition in any situation even if it directly contradicts previous statements they made.

That is a common feature of all partisan tribalists, and one of the reasons why this time is marked by such stupidity.

However, I think you may be giving too much credit. It is human to more easily recall the abuses of the Other against yourself. Both sides are developing a list of grievances that prove "They" are violent and threatening towards "Us" while minimizing, excusing, or forgetting entirely the instances of their own side's violence and intimidation.

Indeed. The ancestors of modern MAGA marched with signs saying “race mixing is communism”.

To me, the motive matters less than the response, with many not only condoning the act, but cheering it.

People should not get assassinated for things they say. That's something everyone should agree on.
I agree, but sadly there are crazy people out there and you have to be careful what you SAY.

Your definition of cheering needs reviewed

Your most disgusting bait so far, comrade.

Don't recall @VySky making a "stand back and stand by" comment when it was MAGA shooting Democrat politicians.

Interesting.

Interesting.

A fascinating phrase to choose here, to be sure.

Members of the Proud Boys, a far-right group that has endorsed violence, celebrated on Tuesday night after President Trump mentioned them during the first presidential debate. . . Within minutes, members of the group were posting in private social media channels, calling the president’s comments “historic.” In one channel dedicated to the Proud Boys on Telegram, a private messaging app, group members called the president’s comment a tacit endorsement of their violent tactics.

And I didn’t cheer Charlie Kirk’s assassination
Didn't say you did.

Didn't say "you guys." Didn't say "the left."

I said "many" people are "not only condoning the act but cheering it."

So much so that most every major social media platform has had to denounce the behavior and issue warnings, as I linked to earlier.

Randos on social media are one thing, from what I’ve seen the opinion-shapers and elected officials on the left have denounced the violence and shared condolences.

Meanwhile some of the main opinion leaders on the right are echoing the deranged bile currently bouncing around rightwing Twitter.

Which is great and is exactly what they need to do, because "randos on social media" get far more attention than they should. I'm sure I could dig up some who didn't, but that's not who I want to focus on.

Which is the big fear. That this spirals into some ridiculous back and forth with people on both sides either applauding political assassinations or giving tacit approval with talks of "karma" and "well, kinda asked for it" BS.

Either everyone has free speech, or nobody does. End of story.

Gee, someone is conveniently ignoring Confederate thugs like the Klan again

Weird that political violence is mostly carried out by right wing extremists, and it really ratcheted up in 2016 and beyond.

I don't think I need to remind you the significance of 2016.
