Allegedly, he was thirty minutes into his speech at Utah Valley University when he fell backwards after shots were heard. Early reports say he was shot in the neck.

He is currently getting medical help at a nearby hospital.

They will adopt whatever stance gives them the most political ammunition in any situation even if it directly contradicts previous statements they made.

However, I think you may be giving too much credit. It is human to more easily recall the abuses of the Other against yourself.
