UVALDE, Texas (AP) — Families of the children and teachers killed in the Uvalde, Texas, school massacre are renewing demands for criminal charges after a scathing Justice Department report again laid bare numerous failures by police during one of the deadliest classroom shootings in U.S. history.

“I’m very surprised that no one has ended up in prison,” said Velma Lisa Duran, whose sister Irma Garcia was one of the two teachers killed in the May 24, 2022, shooting. “It’s sort of a slap in the face that all we get is a review ... we deserve justice.”

The release of the nearly 600-page report Thursday — roughly 20 months after the shooting — leaves a criminal investigation by Uvalde County prosecutors as one the last unfinished reviews by authorities into the attack at Robb Elementary School. Nineteen students and two teachers were killed inside two fourth-grade classrooms, while highly armed police officers waited in the hallways for more than hour before going inside to confront the gunman.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland called the police response “a failure that should not have happened.”

I'd like to see the cop who had nothing better to do while all those people died but use hand sanitizer go to jail along with the chief who 'forgot' his radio.

Based on what specific violation of state or federal law?

More likely you would have to find a prosecutor.
They may all get a pass because of a 'good old boy' syndrome.

What does the slang good old boy mean?

good old boy in American English

1. a male who embodies the unsophisticated good fellowship and sometimes boisterous sociability regarded as typical of White males of small towns and rural areas of the South. 2. a person who belongs to a network of friends and associates with close ties of loyalty and mutual support.

Yep, there is a strong symbiotic relationship between police and prosecutors (both being executive branch ‘public service’ positions). Without such cooperation (mutual support), neither would be successful in their efforts to reduce crime or get criminals incarcerated.

Good luck pinning cops with any legal consequences. They can walk up to your car and shoot you while you're sleeping and your family still won't be able to have anything stick.

But there is likely a prevalence of their buddies getting a pass. For example, how many of these guys are fellow Masons or in the Knights of Columbus? How many go to the same church?

I did see that the Chief had a part of his termination process changed to make it easier to be hired somewhere else. When asked about it, statement mentioned that Uvalde would not rehire them. So Uvalde is willing to let another town suffer from his incompetence.

America needs a national database monitoring LEO's.

SCOTUS has long held that the police have no duty to protect you.

Scapegoating of the Police imo.

And guns are still being sold to anyone with a pulse LOL.
