Source: (CNN) US shuts down major San Diego port of entry as migrants rush border(CNN) US Customs and Border Protection has closed road and pedestrian bridges in both directions at the San Ysidro port of entry, one of the largest land border crossings between San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico.
The closures come as around 500 migrants overwhelmed federal and local Mexican police blockades and rushed toward the US border near Tijuana, Mexico.
The crowds are made up of men, women and a lot of children, said CNN stringer Alfredo Alvarez, who is in the crowd.
Because the regular border crossings were closed, the migrants headed for the cargo area where the railroad crosses, Alvarez said.
The migrants appeared to be meters from the US border wall, he said. He could not see from his position if the migrants had managed to get across the actual border.

It's currently a fast developing story, with only partial context.
From on-air reports, it seems the normal processing of asylum-seekers at this crossing is 60-100 per day. There is a tightly-packed migrant protest camp of 5,000 just across the border in Mexico, courtesy of the Mexican government and humane organizations. Just moments ago they eschewed the regular queue on the bridge to the border crossing, instead moving ad hoc to the end of the Mexican border, not able to reach the U.S. side (as of this moment).
In response the administration shut-down all crossings at this border, including both pedestrian and vehicular traffic in both directions (to & fro).
My comment on this? Marone! It's going to be a helluva' post holiday-weekend Monday morning commute! :doh
Edit: There seems to be some discrepancy over the size of this group, with MSNBC reporting a nearby migrant camp of 5K, and CNN reporting a group of 500 going to the border. I'm not sure if these two reports are necessarily exclusive to each other, but wanted to reflect this on-air development in my post.

Not to defend these actions, but it appears the incident was at least partially propagated by Mexico today claiming there is no deal to allow the migrants to remain. So, according to CNN:
Well, well.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/25/us/san-ysidro-port-of-entry-closed/index.html
There was a process; people were being given a chance to have their asylum requests handled in an orderly manner. An agreement was being made with the Mexican government to allow the migrants to remain there in shelters and camps as their cases were determined.
No threats of abuse. No "separation of families." No claims Mexico is "oppressing" them.
Yet they decide it is NOT up to OUR society to determine under OUR laws whether they should be allowed asylum or must instead apply via normal immigration processes like any other potential legal immigrant.
Nope, THEY rush the border.
Okay Progressives, start with your justifications as to how it was not the decades of lax border control coupled with the "final" amnesties that were never final, or the Obama-era catch and release response to prior waves of illegals. That it is not their fault but somehow the blame is on the USA in general and Trump in particular.
I can't wait to see what hoops you jump through... :coffeepap:
People like to pick on Trump but fail to realize that the Socialist Utopian Havens in Europe are facing the exact same problems... the Port of Calais is under siege from African immigrants trying to rush the border and illegally jump onto trucks bound for the Tunnel. The British built insanely high fences IN FRANCE as a result.
Yes, Trump orchestrates a Reality Show - I agree. But there are indeed underlying problems that need to be addressed. The “reality show” keeps ramping up.......somewhere, something’s gonna give.....
"Crowd of 500 gets unruly" is dog bites man. Happens everywhere all the time. Soccer games, parades, concerts, you name it.
Given even the U.S.'s failure to maintain a border, I'm not sure Mexico has the ability to do so either. I'm all for secure borders, but I'm not sure Mexico has that capability. These people are illegally in Mexico. The Mexican government needs to do the right thing and detain/deport them. They have allowed this to happen and the US should treat this as an attack on US sovereignty by pushing and facilitating these potential illegals to enter the US.
Bad analogy there eco. In just about every place I know of in the US if a dog bites someone the authorities will usually put the dog down...Not exactly something that we want done to human beings is it?

Yeah, I saw where the new President of Mexico tried to distance himself from all this by declaring no deal or agreement had been reached. That will backfire on him, in addition to the problems we saw today, which I agree with you was probably partially responsible for this rush on the border.

The only place those exist is in your imagination.
