LOS ANGELES/WASHINGTON, June 13 (Reuters) - Marines deployed to Los Angeles temporarily detained a civilian on Friday, the U.S. military confirmed after being presented with Reuters images, in the first known detention by active-duty troops deployed there by President Donald Trump.

The incident took place at the Wilshire Federal Building in Los Angeles where Marines took charge of the mission to protect the building earlier on Friday, in a rare domestic use of U.S. troops after days of protests over immigration raids.

So far this is not a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, but I don't think it's going to be long before the Trump administration tries to push things further.

This is all sorts of stupid, and mainly because it's all for show. However, it's important to remember that this is part of the plan to continually push the limits of the executive's power and the ability of the judiciary to challenge all of these efforts.

It's only stupid if you don't care if it gets violent. Mostly peaceful is code for violence and assault on civilians and law enforcement alike.

Incorrect. It's stupid because this is all for show. Comparable deployments of the NG for this kind of support has been when states have requested it because of their inability to control the situation. Quickdraw Donny wanted to make a meal of this, and that's what he's gotten. To make it worse, he's managed to get protests around the country going to his actions in LA.

Mostly peaceful is code for violence and assault on civilians and law enforcement alike.
It isn't.

I hope they brought enough sad trombone players with them.
I hope so too, since it seems there are a lot of NG sitting around doing nothing. Maybe starting up a jam session with locals might be a good use of their time.

**** the marines.

Also their weapons are absolute loaded with ammo, you can see the mags in the mag well. This is after their scumbag leadership said that wouldn’t be the case.

Seriously **** our military.

Weird that Obama and Biden were able to deport far more without military backup.

Hey MAGAs ever wonder why that is?

And thank you again for proving that the far left is every bit as stupid as the far right. And just as disgusting.

Even if the Posse Comitatus Act is never technically violated, it's a gross violation of norms. The problem with let's see how it plays out in court is that the executive branch is moving at warp speed with its push toward authoritarianism. Moreover, we're already seeing some early signs that the Republicans, as a party, may deliberately advocate defying their rulings.

Like you didn't care on Jan 6.
