With a few people on here seemingly almost wanting a US civil war I thought it would be interesting to see how you guys think a civil war might play out?

Will it be a short sharp and decisive victory for one side with almost no disruption to normal life as the people who do seem to want a civil war think or will it be a long and bloody process that will shatter society and the economy as I believe?
Which side will the military back?

Thoughts?

I don't think a civil war is on the cards and tensions will start to go back to normal as Trump starts to dwindle in influence and sanity is restored to politics once again.
Republicans will become more moderate and once again be a viable party.

I hope there's not going to be a civil war....but if there is one, I think it will be very messy. For instance, where would the frontlines be?

I don't think such concepts exist in a civil war.
It's just all a giant mess of death and destruction and why anyone would want it to happen is madness.
To me it's like a football team wanting to kill all the refs because they lost a game.

The last Civil War was fought between the North and the South with a few border states in-between that separated the two sides. I don't think a civil war today would have that line of demarcation.

If there was a civil war I think it would look more terrorism and guerilla warfare.

It's a fantasy some people have.

They play dress up and dream about shooting someone in the US Army.

The US Army would tear them to pieces.

No, you do not have popular support, you'd be fighting the public too.

with the nation in a state of civil war, our inertia would be eliminated, as would our status as a global superpower. the rest of the first world would work to secure our weapons of mass destruction, and the dollar would lose its status as global reserve currency. we would become the most dangerous rogue state on the planet, and would be treated as such. your savings would become worth much, much less, as would your retirement plans.

the rebels would be fewer in number, so they would resort to guerrilla tactics. they would go for transportation and utilities with their limited resources, so within a certain amount of time, angry old people wouldn't even be able to tell each other to **** off on the internet. instead, they would sit in the dark waiting for running water to be restored because idiotic hillbillies blew up something before the US military blew them up.

i could go on and on, but suffice it to say, if you're reading this, your life would probably be ruined by it.

Guerilla tactics are ineffective when you don't have popular support.

Note how quickly the capitol rioters were turned in to the FBI. Same would happen with these wannabee "Y'all Qaeda" types.

A lot of them were turned in by family members.

I agree that any wannabe insurrection that actually seized control of the Capitol would be short lived and put down fast. My fear is that an IRA type of organization starts up with violent acts. They don't need mass support just donors.

Once it hit critical mass, I think that it would be a lot more difficult to stop.

the only way that insurrectionists could fight a Civil War against the USA is to use the same tactics that Middle Eastern Terrorists use (suicide bombings, normal bombings, guerilla warfare, shootings, hijackings, kidnappings, executions, bioterrorism, agroterrorism, and cyberterrorism).

and then the USA could eventually use surgical strikes (where many innocent people/kids are killed).

welcome to war.

Unless the fighting involves pre-paid child porn ,unlimited drugs & Dominos Pizza compensation I don't see it happening

There is no civil war. There are histrionics by the media and the politicians trying to keep the spotlight off themselves.

We have nearly 10% unemployment, a large but unknown "undocumented labor invasion", and the only people making money are those with professionally managed portfolios and big tech. The entire economy is over leveraged on cheap money.
It is not going to end well. Biden is silent. Ron Kline is acting as a shadow president, but lacks constitutional authority for a military crisis. VP Harris is dumb as a box of rocks. There are no leaks, and no real news until a new EO drops.
When the bottom falls out of the economy, and voter fraud is presumed, then it might happen in some (unexpected) form.

You call 6.2% "nearly 10% unemployment"??

Not even close. In fact in the early 1980s, anything under 6.5% was considered "full employment".

Check out the Anglo-Zanzibar War for an idea of how it would play out.

Biden is acting more decisively than Obama, the last president who had to bail us out of an economic disaster. And his first bill probably does more for the American people than 4 years of Trump. So hang in there.

With the fear DC has in loyalty of our service members one would be foolish to think the military would side with socialism and defiance of our constitution. Hint- Weak leftist soy boys don’t join the military. Let that sink in

there will be no real "civil war"

might a bunch of imbeciles decide to act up based on whatever retardation they are told/convinced to believe that day? maybe

if that happens it will play out just like 1/6 played out . . . .a bunch of Qanon conspiracy believing nutters failing in grand fashion but with more bloodshed 🤷‍♂️

1/6 was enough i hope no other terrorists get themselves killed like that other lady did

Hmm, people rioting, looting. People attacking those with different political views. Armed people capturing and occupying sections of cities. Armed groups facing off against one another at so called rallies. Being governed by executive order and total disregard of the democratic process. So called peaceful demonstrations commonly turning violent. Washington DC occupied by two military divisions. I have to think a limited civil war is already in progress.

If it's an actual civil war, you have 18 hours to win, or there's nothing TO win.

You're confusing a Civil War II with World War III

In Civil War II, it's the the lunatic Trumpists + Proud Boys Vs USAF

The war lasts 18 minutes and challenges the Anglo-Zanzibar War for the world's shortest armed conflict ever.

No, I just know how long it takes for our food transportation system to break once it's been interrupted.

Unless we act to punish the current crop of seditionists to the fullest extent the law allows, pressure to reach critical mass will continue.
Still, actual hot shooting wars are extremely expensive and thus require several Koch sized (or larger) backers PLUS an almost equal amount of grass roots financial support.

But some elements of modern warfare require barely any financial support, and for that reason I say that this Civil War 2.0 is going to much more closely resemble "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland, a thirty year slow moving insurgency known for endless random acts of violence, mostly through bombing campaigns.
Here in the USA, add mass shootings to the list of ingredients. We have a lot of them now, expect much more.
Then add in a healthy dollop of cult suicide pacts and you have US Civil War 2.0 all boxed up and ready to ship to a neighborhood near you.

My grandparents lived through many wars and a civil war, and they saw the disintegration of European Communism and more civil war in Yugoslavia. I have heard enough stories and studied enough history to know what it really means. American conservatives treat the concept like a survivalist fantasy. Some of them prepare for it and collect guns.

What a modern civil war in the United States would mean is a group of civilians turning their weapons on other civilians and murdering them. If that occurs in my country, I am leaving. I am not staying to fight nor attempting to live in a survivalist fantasy. It will not be fun, and the majority of government's that arise from such human chaos is usually brutal. During civil wars, people can starve to death. The dollar could collapse. Access to medication, clean water, produce, and other basic needs becomes very hard.

Quite right. Is anyone in the US so stark raving mad as to actually want a civil war? I find it hard to believe.

Civil wars are dreadful. Spain has not completely recovered from one that supposedly ended 80 years ago. Has the USA got over its CW? The destruction of monuments suggest probably not.

A civil war could take place without a single shot being fired.
