U.S. and China agree to slash reciprocal tariffs in major step toward easing trade war

Yeah - real complex - don’t use hormones if you want to sell in that market 🙄
yes it's complex. if you had bothered to find out why growth hormones are used, they arent a bad thing.
They do no harm to carnivores either.. The EU and Great Britain are reactionary. Canada allows growth hormones

Beef producers use hormones primarily to increase cattle growth and improve feed efficiency, leading to more beef production with fewer resources. This can translate to reduced environmental impact and lower costs for the producer. Hormones also play a role in reproductive management, synchronizing estrus cycles for breeding

Don't you think negotiation should have been tried, firstly?
Bessent addressed this (OP). I agree with him China wont move unless it's hit first.
~~
Bessent, who represented the U.S. in the talks with Beijing along with Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, rejected suggestions that negotiating right away would have been more productive than triggering a tariff spat that caused global financial turmoil, saying that a “business as usual” effort to rebalance trade would not have worked.

The U.S. and China now have “a mechanism to avoid the upward tariff pressure,” Bessent told CNBC Monday. “I would imagine that in the next few weeks we will be meeting again to get rolling on a more fulsome agreement,” he added.

Yes.

But haven't we been trying that for the past 2 decades? In fact I can't recall a president since Clinton who hasn't raised concerns numerous time with China.

You got baited into the con so you can own the libs or whatever you want to troll woth that day

People want cheaper goods. You cant flip the US economy on a dime when you've had 50 plus years of buying cheaper overseas shit.

You people cant govern. You are dogs chasing the car, old people crying about young people being too loud.

The more I look into today's announcement, it's clear Trump got absolutely nothing out of his capitulation.

China addressed not one trade issue.

Unions and labor laws .
Oh ok...let's just do away with that so people like napoleon can work 80 hours a week, no over time and in unsafe conditions..

****ing labor laws!

Labor laws.

It's the Red State way . . .

And it hurts the others that are depending on it. Now. Like retirees...who now cant even plan ahead knowing if it will be there. Many dont have financial advisors. Many "dont know just a little bit" and I'm talking about blue collar workers or low-education whites living in trailer parks (not the same things) as much as anyone else.

You, like TeflonDon, let is slide off your back like water of a duck...if it doesnt affect you, who cares? Ya gotta break some eggs to make an omelette.

I was born in a trailer park.

We're what......a couple points off the all time highs and all for a few weeks of disruption?

People who didn't panic are still up since the election and those who know just a little bit made out quite well.

The only reason markets are going back up is because Trump is backing-off on the damage he's doing.

What? China dropped its tariffs to 10%. What do you mean we got nothing out of it?

Did they though? I don't recall any announcements regarding talks with China to address trade issues. I'm curious how he came to the conclusion that "business as usual would not have worked" when what they are doing now is business as usual.
🤔
Because China was happy with the status quo. China trade deficit is a TRILLION every 3 years. China gets to export and restrict imports.
(I won't list them all you know the like IP theft and Patent drafts exposure. SEO cash infusions , and regulatory hurdles to their markets).

Basically China is happy with their malign trade practices. The tariffs (just like phase 1 under Trump 45)
mean China cannot sit back with delays and empty promises and run out the clock on 47

I thought tariffs were going to make us rich. Are we no longer going to be rich?

Naw. Other countries are crying uncle.

No way proud China comes to the table if they weren't in a world of hurt.

We injected $361.1 billion into their economy last year, that accounts for more than 1/3 of their total trade surplus and could cover their entire military budget.
good research

This is pure insanity. A trade war that didn't exist until Trump started it, is being paused and treated like some victory, while ultimately Americans will be paying higher prices and there's no actual benefit of the trade war?

Everyone in America, citizens, businesses, the US government would have all been better off, if "Liberation Day" had never happened. Oh excuse me, some cattle farmers now have the ability to try and sell their beef in the UK. Forgot about that "big" win.

At least on DP we're likely to hear both sides of the story.

But when I later scope-out the comment sections of MAGA World media, I'm sure they're going to be lauding this "deal" and celebrating it to no end!

I believe the meme I'm quoting below, might be salient to your larger point:

"They keep us fighting culture wars, to keep us from fighting a class war"

(excellent post btw)
True that. And there is definitely something to be said in getting a point across in fewer words!

At best he will reset it to were it was before the tariffs

Hell if I know. Ask anj678. They seem to think there's a negative connotation with trailer parks.

I qualified that...you ignored it.

You do understand the new proposed tax bill raises taxes on the rich and gets rid of the carried interest loophole while getting rid of taxes on tips and social security?
There's no taxes on the rich in the bill right now. It doesn't get rid of taxes on social security. Not sure if there's anything on the carried interest loophole or if it even gets passed the mark up stage.
