'Turned out the lights': Fury hits Washington Post as it refuses to run $115K anti-Musk ad

I've got a subscription to WaPo. I hadn't noticed them leaning conservative.

All media outlets that Bezos has a stake in are now discredited.

He had no trouble running a pro-Musk add, but refuses the opposite.

That is unacceptable.
So, boycott the newspaper if you don't like something they've done.

All this really means is confirmation that The Washington Post is obedient to a billionaire owner. In other shocking news, ice is still cold.
So true, but obedient to a billionaire owner who believes in political censorship.

I believe the Post has lost many subscribers. Bezos will run it into the ground and not give a whit...plenty more $$$ where that came from.

Think of it this way: People who would never look at the Washington post have now seen the ad. The furor over the Post refusing to run the ensures the ad will get much more exposure than if they had run it. This is going to be all over TV which is what most people watch for the news.

Everytime a book is banned, sales go up. Same thing.

No, he's a spineless bald-headed douchebag.

Nothing he has a stake in will ever be taken seriously again.

Well, the sad fact is, some will take him seriously because of his personal wealth and because of Amazon's market cap.

I don't think anyone ever took Bezos seriously as some sort of champion of personal civil liberties.

Yes, it seems I was mistaken.

I didn’t quite catch that, can you say again, over?

Just more cowardly billionaire buttplugs who do not deserve to call themselves Americans.

As a result of Bezos' actions, ANY publication he has a stake in is discredited.

Likewise, an advertiser boycott is likely to occur. He will begin to lose money. Maybe then he will find his spine.

Yeah, those people voted for Trump.

No, but he should not be sticking his nose in the running of a media outlet.

I see why his wife divorced him.

Well he bought The Post for the same reason Musk bought Twitter, to control the press.

The press is only free if you own it or have true friends who do.

Which is why it needs to be removed from his ownership.

The oligarchy needs to end. He is using that paper to prevent free speech. That is un-American.

The reason Musk bought Twitter was because he made a joke offer for the company and they accepted knowing his offer was completely stupid.

He tried to pull out of the deal when he realised his bid was ludicrously high but he was forced to complete the deal because he'd gone through the legal steps to buy the company.
He was trying to do a pump and dump and got it completely wrong.

That, my friend, is what we're all up against -- even MAGA. The problem is, MAGA, save for *Steve Bannon, doesn't realize it just yet.

*I gotta admit, I'm looking at the Weather Channel's forecast for Hell, and it looks like they might be predicting some freezing rain and some sleet. I never in a million years thought I'd ever once agree with Steve Bannon on anything.

It appears the reich-wing media (which has long been discredited) is now attempting to censor stories they do not like.

This is hypocrisy.

Bezos needs to go broke paying out the lawsuits that will come from this event.

What would Bezos be sued for?

He censored free speech to help Musk.

This is a 1st Amendment violation.

It PERMANENTLY discredits any media outlet he has a stake in.
That’s not how the 1st amendment works.

I don't know if you've look recently, but the employees of that paper are rebelling.

Spineless cockroach Bezos is going to lose his ass. He deserves nothing less.

I don’t think so.

Yes, this is just another data point affirming American democracy is yielding to a dictatorship. I appreciate (and share) the outrage of the OP, but I knew American democracy would not survive Trump. I am amazed at how quickly it is slipping away from us and how little resistance to this there actually is.

Agreed. The issue beginning discussed here is wrong. Its not censorship, but an abdication of duty by what formerly was thought of as a free press. The result, unfortunately, is the same.

You wrote: "I knew American democracy would not survive Trump. I am amazed at how quickly it is slipping away from us and how little resistance to this there actually is."

According to you we have already failed as a democracy.
Just six weeks into a new presidency? That must be a world record.
You don't have faith in our Constitution or in a duly elected president.
I hope you survive until the next Progressive gets lucky and maybe finds another DEI running mate.

Take the Chicken Little award and wear it proudly.
