Trump's team have said his inauguration was the most highly attended in history despite photographs proving otherwise. Trump himself went on to claim the media had faked images of large empty spaces at his inauguration despite time lapse video showing a sparse crowd throughout the event.

Yet another conspiracy theory concocted by Trump.

What are Trump supporters going to believe? Trump or the photographs and videos which contradict him?

Yeah, I saw this live and it was pretty bizarre.

It was supposedly a press conference, but no questions were allowed or answered. Spicer basically went on a combative tirade against the media (similar to Trump's CIA appearance), where he re-iterated the attendance figures that have been debunked, and stormed out. A very auspicious start to his Presidency.

Trump's playing us for idiots when claiming 1.5M! :doh

Facts don't matter in Trumpland.

Whenever he says stupid **** or things don't play out the way he wants, Trump will just blame a nonexistent media conspiracy against him. I am looking forward to what his press secretary will have to pull off.

Wouldn't that just be the worst job? You constantly have to get up in front of journalists and tv cameras all the time to try to defend the indefensible bull**** that comes out of your boss's mouth?

I agree that Trump is at times delusional and shows worrying signs of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

However, you would have to be blind not to see that the MSM is out to get him.

it's like a pro wrestling announced attendance vs real - add a few decimal places while claiming to hate communists who lie habitually about the smallest most easily refuted details

Spicer or whoever is off to being the next baghdad bob

He was identifiably narcissistic way back when he claimed the iowa primary loss was due to fraud. Probably before then too. Well, so many voters are narcissistic it doesn't bother them i guess

But you mean MSM like fox news? The entire republican party has the highest rated cable "news" show in its back pocket and pretty much only the uneducated really follow MSM at all. Maybe if he comes across badly on CNN or whatever it's because he's truly a narcissistic jackass. Such types can't complain that the attention they crave doesn't always go their way

The hard, cold, facts and reality are out to get every BS artist on this planet.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

I really liked the part where Spicer stated that “this was the largest audience to ever witness the inauguration period both in person and around the globe.”

I think partisanship clouds most people's judgement. Obama has shown many examples of textbook narcissistic traits as well.

It was just easier to say MSM. To clarify Left-wing media is clearly out to get him similar to how Fox was out to get Obama.

All of the News networks are nothing more than propaganda arms to the political parties. Fox for Republicans and all of the rest are Democrats.

There is a difference between reporting facts and taking actions and words out of context to fit a narrative.

I would imagine he is correct on the "around the globe" part. It doesn't appear to be remotely correct on the "in person" part.

I do remember certain GOP media personalities making this claim.
If there's one thing pundits know a lot about, it's narcissism.

It was just easier to say MSM. To clarify Left-wing media is clearly out to get him similar to how Fox was out to get Obama.
True enough.
I'm amazed that Trump is giving his detractors so much material to work with.

Yeah, that's kinda true, but FOX wears their bias like a badge of honor.

True, there were many Fox contributers that made claims to this but I pretty much write off any criticism from Fox in relation to a Democratic politician (even though Krauthammer is a Harvard trained Psychiatrist.). There were Doctors outside of the political sphere who came to the same conclusions. For me personally, his exit speech is classic NPD. His remarks on a scandal free adminstration and on improved race relations are clearly delusional.

I do agree that Trump has truly an endless supply of stuff worthy of criticism, which is one reason why it throws me off when they blatantly lie or take things out of context. Why risk your credibility when you have ample supply of worthy material.

I think the fact that Fox is the only conservative network is what draws the attention so much to it. When all of the other networks are reporting with left wing bias it just shows that much light on the bias of Fox news.

If you like to argue and fight it can be a easy job. That instead of having to give detailed and correct answers to complicated policy issues you instead can spend your time fighting with media over trivial issues.

Quote from a link another poster posted in another thread.

Quoted by Bloomberg, former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said on Twitter after Spicer’s remarks that "This is called a statement you’re told to make by the president. And you know the president is watching."

He is indeed, and what he is seeing is that he once again is controlling the media narrative, which is focusing on a very immaterial and arbitrary issue, instead of spending time on investigative work and reporting on far more serious issues relating to Trump's new administration.

Yep, like the thousands of cheering folks on rooftops in NJ on 9/11/2001 that Trump clearly saw on the TV news. The only problem is that such footage was never aired. That must have been a media conspiracy too. ;)

I do not expect the liberal media to give trump the benefit of the doubt on anything and I'm not surprised that they would low-ball estimates of the crowd

But I also do not see it as being very important for the governing of the country either

Trump as made his point and now he should move on

Just look at the side by side photos and even Ray Charles can see the Obama crowd was twice or more the size of the Obama crowd .... and Ray has the disadvantage of being both dead and blind.

the Spicer numbers about the Metro riders was not true

The only numbers Spicer cited were ridership numbers from WMATA, the D.C. public-transit system. “We know that 420,000 people used D.C. Metro public transit yesterday, which compares to 317,000 that used it for President Obama's last inaugural,” he said. But the figures Spicer offered were not consistent with those provided by WMATA officials, who told the Washington Post that 570,557 riders used the Metro system between its 4 a.m. opening and its midnight closure on Friday. That number falls short of both President Obama’s 2009 and 2013 inaugurations, which saw 1.1 million trips and 782,000 trips respectively.

and the TV viewer numbers do not supports Spicers lies either

Preliminary Nielsen figures also show that Trump’s inauguration received fewer average TV viewers in the United States than Obama’s first inauguration. The Los Angeles Times reported that 30.6 million viewers tuned in for Friday’s ceremonies, 19 percent below the 37.8 million viewers who watched in 2009. The figures still place Trump’s inauguration ahead of Obama’s second inauguration, as well as the first ceremonies for President Clinton and both President Bushes. Ronald Reagan holds the record for inauguration viewership, after 41.8 million viewers watched his swearing-in ceremony in 1981.

Trump lying almost daily on the campaign trail is apparently now a mode of operation in the White House as well.

To be fair, both sides were lying. NYT et. al. used an image of early in the day, and compared it to an image of Obama's inauguration during his speech. That was deceptive. Then the Trump admin claimed an exaggerated number.
