Trump to sign order making English the official U.S. language

All this does is greenlight federal agencies to drop multilingual requirements, the rest of the narrative is a showpiece to the White Nationalists of the party.

Lol.. Stand on a street in Manhattan.. Hundreds of people walk by.. You'll hear every language being spoken, not many people will be speaking English..

Next time I'm in NYC I'll call the cops when I hear these people not speaking English... Lol

Trump is an idiot..

This is the kind of performative stuff the MAGAverse sees as "getting so much done". I don't think I'd hire the MAGAverse to discern real work from busy work.
:)
"IT PISSES OFF DA NON-MAGAS! HIS MAJESTY JUST KEEPS ON WINNING!!!"

Maybe retailers will offer an English speaking discount!

"Speak English at the checkout and get 5% off on a dozen eggs!"

Ah, right. I guess I'll have to get really outraged so our MAGAverse friends can feel like they're owning those outside of their MAGA Political Universe.
:)

Does broken English count? Some people are real sticklers about this kind of thing. People need to be clear if they have all the best words.
🙂

Attempts at English only get 2.5% discount.

what it does is eliminate multilingual requirements
That’s unfortunate, as we all benefit when complex ballots and more simple signs are translated.

More pointless virtue signalling so his MAGA cultists get the tingles.

But hey - with every campaign promise filled I guess His Majesty has a lot of free time to waste on this nonsense.
Odd that we hear nothing about inflation. All of that time spent saying inflation was so horrible and how he was going to slay it, and now crickets.

It remains to be seen if this change will encourage more immigrants to learn more English. If it does, that's a good thing.
This is about playing to his simple-minded cult. Nothing more. An 'official language' is a language you're entitled to communicate with the government in and the term only has meaning if there's more than one. Canada has two official languages, Switzerland has four that citizens can use in dealing with the government.
Wait, does this mean the US government will no longer have translaters? At borders, for example? That wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Congratulations, gentlemans and ... lady! !! You've got an official language right now!

How could you live without it ?
But why ENGLISH ? It's strange. He could pick Russian, why not ?
Or .... Ukrainian !
Imagine : From now on Ukrainian MOVA is official language of the United States of America! Sounds great!
Just another redirect

What a pendejo

of Course ! Immediately, hurry on! I think next bill will declare speaking unofficial lang a crime!
Again, with more exaggeration and hyperbolic rhetoric, that serves no purpose but to raise fears.

That should bring down the price of eggs.

Do Republicans do literally anything for middle Americans that isn't just performative pig slop which only appeals to 80 IQ illiterate rubes?

Indeed. Think of all the savings not having to print "huevos" on egg cartons.

Yup

Rhetorical question?

According to available information, around 180 countries worldwide have a designated official language, meaning they have a national language recognized by their government. Only the far progressive left would see this as an problem.

Encouraging the development of English language skills is a good thing.
Of course it is. I used to teach ESL both in the US and in Mexico, and the demand was great. But Americans developing some Spanish language skills is also a good thing.

One wonders if we will have to change the names of some states and other locales: Dakotas, Colorado, the Carolinas, Florida. But “I left my heart in St. Francis” doesn’t cut it.

In my experiences, Mexicans living in the southwest are unlikely to learn to speak English well. In the plains states more likely. Probably in much the same way my Italian family followed the immigrant language progression. First generation, my grandparents, spoke only Italian, specifically the Sicilian dialect. My parents were bilingual and my sister and I only English.

And economics plays a role. When I lived on the border in Mexicali, few Mexicans spoke English, an advantage for me in learning Spanish. Had I lived in Tijuana, not so much, as because of so many more visitors from the US to a town with more pleasant weather than Mexicali, lots of Mexicans there seemed to speak English.
