Trump says U.S. government shutdown to last until agreement on border wall

Do the Democrats even have a coherent reason for not wanting more of a wall?

Is there any evidence from properly conducted studies suggesting this is a cost effective method of reducing illegal immigration and drug smuggling?

Because as far as I know the only "evidence" is a bunch of assertions from "experts" who have apparently never heard of ladders. And they are claiming this wall is going to be effective.

So can you point us to the relevant studies? Or are you planning on spending $5b because Trump said so, ignoring the fact that Trump managed to bankrupt a casino?

This is a typical Trump tactic -- make demands that he insists the other side must accept. He hopes that the other side will capitulate. He always backs down when they don't.

Do you remember that Mr. Trump was adamant that there would be no NAFTA 2.0 unless all disputes were settled by American courts under American law and through American procedures?

Well, there is a NAFTA 2.0 (assuming that someone actually ratifies it) and guess what is in it about how disputes are settled. [HINT - It is NOT by American courts under American law and through American procedures.]

What Individual-1 could do is have the House and Senate pass whatever bill they want and present it to the President. If he fails to sign it or return it to the Congress within ten days (except Sundays) it shall become law "in like Manner as if he had signed it," according to Article I, Sec. 7 of the constitution.

This way, he can say he won't sign it but it becomes law anyway.

Alternatively He could fire the flunky He blames for not bringing Him the bill for His signature/veto in time for Him to act as a President should.

Or "boats" or "aircraft" or "balloons" or "freight companies" or ...

This is Donald's fault. As he himself said it's the president's failure to lead.any rightist who Claims otherwise is a godamned hypocrite.

LOL! Well, let see. It with either increase, decrease, or stay the same. I wonder what putting a huge barrier in previously clear territory would do to the rate of travel in that spot. Wow, this is a tough one! We better call in some geniuses, like Pelosi and Schumer, to figure this out! Now, that's funny you would even have to ask.

OMG! Ladders! Yes, they will be dragging ladders or stop at Home Depot on the way. LOL, that's even funnier!

The studies??? LOL! What kind of imbecile needs a "study" to figure iut what a giant wall would do to the amount of people traversing an area? Wow, if Pelosi and Schumer told you the Moon was made of green cheese, you'd believe it. That's just funny.

As Pelosi called it, ‘the trade deal formerly known as Prince,’

Do the Democrats even have a coherent reason for not wanting more of a wall? I mean, there are some areas of the border that already have a wall. Do they want those torn down? Most things they just oppose because it will hurt them in some way, like the wall.

I don’t oppose a wall at all. I think trump supporters should be allowed to pay for it and build it on their own property.

You will receive 100% endorsement for that proposal from everyone except Mr. Trump's supporters.

They believe that they have an entitlement to have other people pay for things from which they will receive benefits - things that they are too indolent to obtain through their own hard work.

Exactly the type of answer I was expecting!

You just described the bedrock of the Democrat platform. Vote for us, and we’ll tax others to give you benefits. Exactly why they don’t want a wall.

It's not an unreasonable position, actually. When you look at the red/blue map, you'll see that aside from Florida, California and New Mexico, the prospect of there being enough Republicans to build a contiguous wall using their own properties isn't so improbable.

They've just got to pay for it is all. That could of course be something of a challenge since aside from Texas, the red states receive the most Federal assistance, which blue states pay for.

Yes, that might work. And Democrats should pay for Obamacare.

I'm guessing most Dems would be happy to keep Obamacare over whatever Trump and the Republicans are coming up with to replace it.

LOL, Trump flimflammed the hell out of you with healthcare. Remember he was promising his base he had a plan for a great healthcare system? It was going to lower rates, improve coverage, provide more coverage, it was just brilliant!

Turns out a five year old drawing a hospital in crayons would have had more of a healthcare plan than Trump. We both know that's true.

How does it feel to get flimflammed like that?

You should know, after suffering through Obama's Presidency. Still waiting for my $2500 savings per year.

Why would Democrats pay for anyone other than themselves to buy insurance? All the mandate does is force people who are not responsible people to behave as if they are responsible with regards to health care, rather than gambling they won't get sick, losing, skipping out on their hospital bill, and forcing the responsible people to pay via higher premiums after the hospital recoups loss by renegotiating higher rates with insurer companies

What's that? You didn't know money doesn't grow on trees or that hospital care is expensive? Well, it doesn't and it is. And Obamacare said: we're sick of uninsured insurables leeching of us insureds, just as much as we're sick about insurance companies taking your money and dropping you when they have to perform their intended function.

That should be - indeed it was - a conservative notion, shouldn't it?

By my how opinions predictably change with the letter next to a program's name. (Or politican's name. Or anything's name).

PS: your Idiot In Chief got rid of the tax penalty in his package of handouts for the richest. So you really have no whine left there.

Wonder why those democrats are filibustering a spending bill that would end the shutdown.

Because it is their right as elected officials. Presidents are not kings and must not act like they are or the Govt. shuts down.

It was just a counter to a comment that only Republicans should pay for the wall, and build it on their property.

I'm seeing a lot of information here that seems pretty mystifying.
I heard the Senate passed a bill that the vice president came and told them the president would sign the night before. It included a down payment on the wall a total of 3.2billion.
Then the right wing media said the president was caving in his campaign promise. The next morning after senators did there job and paul Ryan was supposed to bring the bill to the floor the president called Ryan and they changed the bill in the house....by then the senators thought they were all done and went home.
Now the house has passed a bill the Senate won't pass, the Senate has passed a bill Ryan won't bring to the floor and we are at a standoff about something there is no plan for.
The president is basically saying give me money and I promise I'll do whatever needs to be done with it...with no plan.
And for some reason there are all these people defending this action.
I don't know any builder that gets money without plans!

Never mind that in 8 days the bill the house and Senate passed will no longer be valid.
This is the stupidest shut down ever!

Mr. Trump's supporters believe that they have an entitlement to "The Wall" and that everyone else should pay for it.

Is that supposed to be some kind of a point? Why would anyone feel an "entitlement" to having a wall? I think all Americans should expect border security from our government, as it is one of the reasons for the government's existence.
