Trump says he ‘couldn’t care less’ if auto prices rise because of tariffs

This is what Trump really said:

“I couldn’t care less. I hope they raise their prices, because if they do, people are gonna buy American-made cars. We have plenty.”
Does that sound sane to you?

"Likely".... We shall see. And only $3,000? Oh the horrors. .....

Dealerships mark down more than that as often as Biden takes liver pills.
Yeah, inflation is no big deal, right?

Did you actually read the EOs?

I’m guessing not.

I did. I also understand that tariffs are on imports, and a country can bypass tariffs by manufacturing products in the United States that they intend to sell in the United States.

It's funny to consider that you guys gave Biden a tongue bath when he did the exact same thing with computer chip, EV and solar panel tariffs to move manufacturing to the US and promote US manufacturers.

No despite what MAGA morons think we live in a global economy. Trump is a moron and thinks he can undo that

Uh huh...

Trying to will harm everyone including the USA

That's also false. It will lead to either better export prospects for the US or more manufacturing jobs in the US. the horror!

If he succeeds at all it will mean the world will trade with each other and not the USA and grow while the USA shrinks to to isolationism idiocy

Yeah, sure. They will all stop trading with the largest economy in the world. Good luck!

The price of gas goes up a few cents a gallon and Conservatives scream bloody murder.

The price of cars goes up $3,000, no big deal.

Tariffs will drive up the cost of everything, imported and domestic. Don’t think for a moment that even items not subject to tariffs won’t cost more because manufacturers will take advantage of the opportunity to increase profits.

Uh huh...

And?
That's also false. It will lead to either better export prospects for the US or more manufacturing jobs in the US. the horror!
So you have no clue how economies and tariffs work just like your idiot God/emperor
Yeah, sure. They will all stop trading with the largest economy in the world. Good luck!
Trumps tariffs are making it so they dont have much choice but to look elsewhere. Sure there will still be some trade but it will cost you more to do it

How the hell did you get that from what I said? Do other countries only sell to the United States?

Do you understand how logistics works?

Who is Poland and Austria's biggest trading partner? Germany. Why? Because it's a big economy that's right next door to them. Do you think Austria and Poland are ripping Germany off? Canada does most of its trade with the US because it's a big economy right next door. Canada will have to diversify its trade because the US is frankly been unreasonable, the US is intentionally trying to make things more painful for Canada for no reason.

Yeah, sure. They will all stop trading with the largest economy in the world. Good luck!
They will if it's cheaper to trade with other countries than it is with the US. The other possibility is that US importers will lower their bids for foreign goods to compensate for the tariffs and pass the cost onto the American consumer.

For mediocre cars that suddenly cost more? Don't hold your breath.

Kool-ade rots the brain

This 👆 is what you get when one takes a snippet of a conversation out of context...and then engages in spin, speculation, innuendo and hyperbole.

Yet more projection. BIGTIME!

Classic damned if you do, damned if you don't. But this time Trump did it to himself.

If Trump did admit to trying to coerce US automakers to not raise prices, then he is a fascist socialist. If Trump did not admit to it, he is then admitting to not giving one **** at all for the US consumer who gets the punishment from these tariffs.

Trump is no statesman, no leader, nothing but a transactional self-serving lunatic.

So a Chinese alternator for a 2012 Ford F-250 SD now at $311.00 will increase up to $388.

The Motorcraft is $380 right now

That's ($77 increase) equal to a family of 4 treat at McDonalds. Or a night out at the show. 🤷‍♂️

"only 77 dollars"

"night out at the show"

At this rate everyone will be eating goddamn rice and beans and nobody will be going out to any shows.

So you clearly do not know conditions pertained in USMCA. 🥱

Neither does Trump, and he initiated it!

And threre is no indication at this time American car makers are planning to pass the cost to consumers.

Modern businesses, when faced with a new cost of doing business, are famous for their eating that additional cost so as not to upset their customers!

And a company like Ford who manufactures 80% of their vehicles in the US they wil fare well.
You misspelled “assembles!”

0-3, c’mom, man!

That's also false. It will lead to either better export prospects for the US or more manufacturing jobs in the US. the horror!
Better export prospects? Have you thought this through?

Don’t you think other countries will also impose tariffs on American products?

For mediocre cars that suddenly cost more? Don't hold your breath.

Haha! Sales of the Ford F series, Chevy Silverado and Tesla Model Y beg to differ.

It might be hard for Canadians to comprehend I guess when all of their top selling cars are built outside of Canada.

They already do, that's the whole point. China, Europe, Canada.. they all have protectionist tariffs on imported goods.
