Within the Executive Order modifying the April 2nd global reciprocal tariffs [SEE HERE] section #4, we note a massive increase in the duty fees for mailed products from China formerly shipped under ‘de minimis’ rules.

Yesterday, as part of the modification to Executive Order #14257, President Trump has increased the baseline tariff for product mailed from China [de minimis tariff] from 30 90 percent to 120%.

Mailed products from China now face a 120% tariff. Additionally, minimum tariff amounts increased from $75 to $100 effective May 1st, and from $150 to $2oo effective June 1st. [See Section #4]

Example: If you order a $20 shirt from China effective June 1st, you will pay $220. $20 for the shirt, and $200 minimum tariff.

China is screwed six ways from Sunday.

Where are you buying your shirts? Won't all companies raise the price of shirts if China shirts cost $220?

In 2023, the US imported $36.1 billion worth of textiles from China. This represented a significant portion of the total $122 billion in US textile imports, making China a major source for these goods.

No.

Nobody is going to buy a $20 shirt for $220, and nobody...except China...is going to sell a $20 shirt for $220.

And that is going to change. Big time.

Funny watching you break out your pom poms for inflation after the way you acted last year about it.

Sellers in the USA are already buying bulk from TEMU and then reselling from the USA. they likely make orders at several thousand dollars at a time. The minimum $75 to $100 will simply have retailers in the USA affiliated with TEMU, pay that tarill, and then pay federal taxes too.

Sure, Temu products will become more expensive, but damn. they are too cheap for any US retailer to compete with already.

He's certainly hitting China where it hurts. In the everyday American's wallet.

China has the rest of the world to trade with. No one now trusts the US regarding tariffs, or trade for that matter. Trump even ****ed with our traditional trading partners.

Trump -- " I will not negotiate." "The tariffs are permanent." "The 90 day tariff pause was planned from the beginning."

Anyone can see that Chump is making economic decisions as he goes along. One day this, the next day that. World leaders know for certain now that Trump is a fool.

It's worse than that, he's done this pump and dump before. Then he stands with his billionaire pals bragging about how much they made on the stock market!

So the guy/girl buying their latest one off fun gadget from Temu etc is going to see it unaffordable now. Not necessarily a bad thing maybe, but it is the consumer who loses out as well. On the other hand, bulk purchases of stuff that you can't get from anywhere else will rise a lot less, and still get purchased, although in lower volumes overall. However the biggest impact is the price inflation as the govt takes more of our money. Yes it will obviously impact China, but it isn't exactly wonderful for US consumers either. A lot of products that people want, are only produced at the price points they want, in China. We aren't going to see US factories starting up to produce those same goods at price points anything like we get from China today, and in many cases there just will never be US factories for them because the US alone isn't enough volume, and China owns the international markets.

For the US consumer this means higher prices and reduced choice. So not something to celebrate. Whilst I am onboard with tackling China on trade in general, this particular move looks more like an own goal as much as anything.

How do you know "it counts?" How is China "screwed?"

Seems to be working out ok for China...the EU is reaching out to them and our actions just make other global markets more favorable to China, with much better trade terms.

Because Americans are now going to pay more for stuff from China?

Trump apologists who don't understand economics or how trade policies work.
And refer to conservativetreehouse to get their ideas.

You can't make this stuff up

My family is just going to try to minimize expenses until the situation stabilizes again. This whole thing is so stupid.

Why does the Right assume China only trades with USA? In fact, China has already been sending their cars all over the world, minus the US, and are the becoming the world's biggest car manufacturer. China will simply strengthen its ties with other countries and leave the US out.

Trump has made China STRONGER by simply looking sane in the face of Trump stupidity.
