Trump: Apple should build 'their damn things' in US

While that will help, it isn't enough. Companies that manufacture abroad need a financial incentive. I suppose you could increase taxes on companies that manufacture abroad but the tariff would be more fair.

There's an easier way to do it. Just require all U.S. companies to follow U.S. laws regardless of where they manufacture. That means they have to pay foreign workers exactly the same as they'd have to pay them here, they have to follow all the same safety laws, environmental laws, etc. Once the financial advantages are gone, most will bring their manufacturing back home because it will be cheaper to do it here.

That would cause prices to skyrocket and pretty much bankrupt any American company that sells any product.

Everyday there's another thread about Trump because he said this or that. He's going to fix immigration, he's going to fix the debt, he going to fix the deficit, he's going to force companies to move back to the US and build their products here, he's go to MAKE Mexico build a wall and make them pay for it, and on and on and on.

All politicians promise things they can't deliver. But what's really amazing and shocking is that his followers believe all this stuff and fall for his pie in the sky promises, every single time. It's like they are hypnotized. Economics 101, adding a 35% tax on imports will KILL our economy. But he says it and his lock step followers believe it because he said it, and because he's rich so they think must know what he's talking about.

Fact is he isn't dumb, he knows that there's no way in God's name could he tack on a 35% tax, but he said it for the effect and the publicly and his lemmings believe him. Amazing!

I can't think of another politician who would say he's going to tax companies 35%, or make another country build a wall. The fact that Trump says these things is bad enough, the fact that people believe him is worse.

Not necessarily. If you had the compromise rule "more than 75% of product made in the U.S." then the company I work for at least would be safe. :)
Unfortunately, it really is hard to get some items in the U.S. But more and more military contracts require exactly what I stated.

Military contracts are fine, but having every single ocmpany and industry abide by that law would be economic suicide as prices would skyrocket and foreign companies would become dominant almost instantly.

First thought:

Foxconn and the entire hi technology industry.

Why single out Apple?

Second thought:

Trump forces entire computer industry to build in U.S., against free market principles, causing prices to skyrocket.

He doesn't export manufacturing to other countries. He builds things in other countries and repatriates at least some of the profits. He does the opposite of manufacturers. No, there is no hypocrisy.

His clothing line is made in China. So no. He distilled his Vodka in Denmark. So no.

Sadly, yes, Trump's another big business government colluder who is attempting to impress idiots who believe that he can somehow force businesses to bow to his will if he becomes president.

true enough.... if he actually operated as a free marketeer, none of would even know his name.

I didn't know about those things. Sorry. I only know him as a real estate developer. Thanks for the correction.

There is no law requiring companies to pay foreign workers (or even American workers) the same. The companies are required to follow the laws in the countries in which they operate and those laws trump U.S. law. I'm sticking with the tariffs.

No kidding, that's why it was presented as a possibility. Neither are ever going to happen though so it doesn't really matter.

'Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump warned that he would force Apple, the U.S.'s most profitable company, to manufacture all of its products in the U.S. if he is elected president in November 2016.

...

During his 45-minute speech on Martin Luther King day, Trump also claimed to support free trade yet insisted he'd impose a 35 percent tax on businesses producing goods overseas, including Ford cars that are produced in Mexico.'

Further evidence the haters have come to the end of their usual bag of tricks and returned to their natural state. When all else fails, mindlessly insult the opponent at the top of your lungs.

Oh, I don't know. That strategy seems to be working pretty well for the current GOP frontrunner.

Wait. You really can't think of another candidate in this race who would just say that he intends to dramatically increase tax rates and go after big businesses who manufacture overseas?

LOL. Why just apple? where does he think samsungs are made? Cleveland?

He'll make the crops GROW AGAIN!

Foreign countries will not recognize US law.

And you think you can carry that off? How cute.

You have to give it to them - Trump fans are just as incoherent and inconsistent as the man they blindly follow. From claiming that insulting others was a loser tactic only used by those who had nothing left to suggesting that it was an admirable and difficult thing to pull off in two posts.

That's why I said *U.S.* companies.

Do you favor banning foreign countries from doing business here?

If not, then how do you intend to stop the massive move to shift headquarters overseas that your policy proposal will create?

No, but we can talk about tariffs on foreign-made products. These companies wouldn't have to move headquarters, they'd have to move their entire operations to another country, having no legal presence in the U.S. If they want to do that, that's up to them, I guess.
