Trump: ‘A Lot of People Are Saying Maybe We’d Like a Dictator’

Anyone still arguing that the victorious North shouldn't have put the entire leadership, overclass, officer corps, plantation enforcer caste, and landed gentry of the Confederacy to the sword?

Because this ****ing Copperheaded lunatic and his legions of fat fraidy cats are the price we are paying for not putting the Confederacy to death.

The fire next time. The gods be damned fire.
I can't argue with you there. Tsao Tsao or Subetei or Musashi or even Yi Sun Shi would have told us to execute the Confederates. Our best chances of it back then would have come on the battlefield. It probably would have happened after Second Bull Run, but the newspapers refused to carry the story of the brilliantly successful ragtag band of political partisan troops called the US Army 31st Infantry Division because they were Communists.

of course it is. It's enticing anywhere as a starting out job from a payscale standpoint.
The problem is that it is paid with other people's money.
that's not the only problem. so much of the US population is going to die off because of Trump's policies that with all of this foolish spending, our economy now is going to look like a boom in ten years. we will never be able to build it back. never.

He's saying it out loud.
This is more of Trumps exaggerated fantasy..........as WHO are the people who are saying this?? He makes these grandiose assumption's.......that sound like gossip of the worst kind....... WHAT HE is DOING IS GETTING THE PEPLE USED TO THE IDEA OF A DICTATORSHIP.......BY SAYING SUCH PHRASSES OUT LOUD.

This is how he "conditions" the public into accepting (getting used to ) his authoritarian ideas. His very unusual , evasive speach includes his " we will know in two weeks" or "we will see".....(when it comes to doing something really positive )...which means NOTHING. He is less evasive when it comes to authoritarian type of decsions.....ie his 'presidential orders ".(Governing by decree. He is already operating like a dictator......(but now denies it ...)....and that is obvious to any astute observer. While insinuating ideas like the topic title says.......he is actively militarizing the big cities that are NOT Trump supporting. Perhaps the MAGA contingency can enlighten us as to their position on Trump becoming (officially) a dictator. He still has three plus years to "work on " the psyche of the American public in conditioning them to being used to authoritarian leadership. He is well on his way......and the American populace is allowing it passively to happen. ( making them complicit in his effort). They have bought into the delusions of "strong man". ideology.

No.

Because Trump is such a large personality Harris' personality never really shined at all. After reading in on her I was certain and remain so that she was totally unqualified for the job...........her whole campaign/existence as "not Trump"

She would have divided the country as much as Trump...but she wouldn't have waged war on immigrants, poor people, Canada, Europe, transsexuals, and Not MAGAs
The only reason for the division is beyond the control of any Democrat. It is the fault of the billionaire funded right wing propaganda machine pushing absolute nonsense into the cult rumor echo chamber. Any Democrat who rises to prominence will be swiftboated.

I predict if impeachment occurs, "moderate" GOP Senator Susan Collins will opine that...."I believe the President has learned a lesson"
No GOP senator will vote for impeachment........ever.
this isn't a matter for impeachment. it calls for a court martial.

Too much TDS on this thread, since, clearly Trump was just joking. He was, seriously, believe me, he was JUST joking. He was JUST trolling the libs. He didn't say what he said.
Sure, but his actions speak louder enough to be clearly understood by anyone paying attention. Trump doesn’t believe in democracy, due process, the rule of law, common decency — take your pick. (And regarding TDS, he more and more appears to be the deranged one, not his critics.)

But the bottom line is that Trump doesn’t believe in the promise of America, our country at its best. He represents the USA at our worst.

Drunken sailor spending is not much different than it has been. But yes, at some point it becomes unsustainable and austerity will set in. No one wants to admit that is on the horizon, and some refuse to believe it is even possible.

As a journalist you learn to spot 'qualifiers' which are the bread and butter of liars.

"Most people", "some people", "caring people" all identifiers/qualifiers that suggest the speaker has actually TALKED to someone with that opinion. My experience is it almost always preceded total bullshit. Others can include "don't quote me on this", "people have told me" and sometimes "I have read". Liars are accomplished and know a stand alone statement is easily discarded. But when you invent a qualifier it's more likely the listener will buy it. The official "journalese" for such a qualifier is "according to informed sources...." or "insiders say...."
Programs in Strategic Studies inform the professional learner that dictators compulsively tell you what they're going to do to us over here. About this, dictators don't lie.

Trump regularly tells us what he's going to do with we who are his political opposition. Many a dictator luvs to do this so he can relish your knowing your demise and that it's in the works. He can't wait to just do it when the time comes; rather, the dictator needs for we over here to know our certain doom and how. The Generalissimo Trumpizing blue state National Guard into his Guardstapo toward his sinister purposes is but one step along the way for him. In other words there are some certain evils Trump doesn't lie about.

In the past Republican politicians would have spoken out about this kind of comment.

Now they either agree with it or they're too wimpy to speak out.

While I understand that participants need to continue to cry about Trump, why do liberals post one part of a quote to do so. He went on in the next sentence to say he didn't want to be a dictator. I guess that doesn't matter to those who constantly live to virtue signal their hatred for Trump.

Because no one with a brain believes either statement is true.

Why did he even have to say that?
I don't ever remember Reagan or Carter or Clinton or Bush saying something similar?

I wonder if any MAGA actually understands how Trump works. He puts out an idea of what he wants to do to see how it goes over, but then says something that keeps him from getting in too much trouble with those outside his base. He says many people want a dictator, letting his MAGAs know he is thinking about being one, and then says not him to ease the minds of those outside of his base. If you cannot read between the lines, then go ahead and believe what you want until he actually is our dictator.

I take much of what President Trump says with a "grain of salt". He says a lot of things without providing the evidence to back up what he says. While I can agree on some of his policies, I have little respect for Trump as President.

imo, the majority of people in the US do not want a dictator. If we did, it sure would not be Trump. :giggle:

He has massive portraits of himself hanging all over DC while red state military patrol the streets but nothing to see here! As it turns out Republicans were just a massive fascist sleeper cell just waiting for activation from a reality tv show host.

Trump: ‘A Lot of People Are Saying Maybe We’d Like a Dictator’

I'm hearing... people are saying...

You've got to give the people what they want. 😏

So was Hillary. The people who support this man are deplorable.
A question is how to help them be less deplorable. In a democracy, deplorable voters get a deplorable leader. I don't think you are suggesting abandoning democracy? JFK faced this issue with a racist nation when he argued they should support civil rights for black Americans in a historic speech, one of his two greatest IMO (both given during 48 hours).
