Transcript: Obama's State Of The Union Address As Prepared For Delivery : It's All Politics : NPR
Today in America, a teacher spent extra time with a student who needed it, and did her part to lift America's graduation rate to its highest level in more than three decades.
An entrepreneur flipped on the lights in her tech startup, and did her part to add to the more than eight million new jobs our businesses have created over the past four years.
An autoworker fine-tuned some of the best, most fuel-efficient cars in the world, and did his part to help America wean itself off foreign oil.
[and so on...]
the XO remark was a line in the sand for congress
work with me, or to the extent i am legally able, i will move things forward myself
seems transparent to me
felt sorry for the pizza dough kid who had to stand up beside his boss in front of all of America and look 'proud' that Obama had arranged for him to have a job that pays a whopping $20,000 per year
Yeah, does that sound like a constitutional, American thing to you? Threatening, "do it my way, or I'll do it without you"? I keep searching, and for the life of me I can't find the clause that says 'If congress won't do what the President wants to do, then he can act by himself.'....
That is what we are told is the new norm.....No longer should we have this inequality right? Just bring everyone down to that level and we won't.

Executive orders exist. Sorry if this is news to you.
We're talking more about the ideology. The purpose of the Presidency is to execute the laws that congress makes and represent the country in foreign affairs. Not to make policy. Hes redefining the balance of power.
Perhaps the GOP needs to rethink their strategy of shutting down government.
Not sure what that has to do with anything. Congress controls spending. "shutting down govt", also known as not authorizing spending, is well within their power and purpose.
That aquward moment when everyone can clearly see that John Boehner is more black than Obama.

This is why Obama sickens me. This stat is COMPLETe BS and worse, he knows it. Yet he still dishes it out.
The only thing that it's contrary to is our democracy. Republicans seem unaware of that, which is, I would guess, a fatal flaw.
Government of, by, for the people governed.
wrong
the Executive has the power to lead the country ... should (s)he so choose to exercise it
and after five years, Obama has finally decided to claim the authority vested in his elected position
Perhaps you could show me where it says that in the constitution.
you're welcomeThe executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.
you're welcome
What does have to do with this 'power to lead' that you mentioned? I cant find that in your sentence.
let the dictionary be your friend:
Executive | Define Executive at Dictionary.com
a person or group of persons having administrative or supervisory authority in an organization.
Thats not the constitution. But ill play along. Assuming we accept that a modern web dictionary definition of 'executive' somehow defines the power the POTUS has, 'power to lead' is still not in your dictionary.
Thus the power to execute, not to lead. So, try again. You seem to be very confident of your interpretation of the powers of the President, specifically this 'power to lead'. It should be pretty easy for you explain the logic upon which this is based.
