At least 23 killed when tornadoes rip through Alabama; death toll expected to rise, officials say

I can't help but wonder that this high death toll is the result of poor infrastructure and emergency response systems, something common in the deep Red States. Blue States tend to have their act together: sound structures, basements, sirens, emergency alert broadcasts on cell phones, etc. Red ones not so much.

Yes, Conservatives and Libertarians, government is actually a good thing.

An average of 80 people die annually from tornadoes in the United States, although just 10 died in 2018, according to data from the National Weather Service.

Seeing 1/4 of that death-toll from one storm is unusual.

Come on, Calamity. Normally I got your back, but this is a little out in left field.

Probably, but it did immediately come to mind.

Not a lot of blue states represented by tornadic activity, so even if this wasn't a silly partisan thread, I would have to say that no, that the tornado deaths wouldn't have been in any blue states. Not for the reason you are questioning, but no, all the same.

 Leave it to Calamity to blame a party for deaths caused by weather and "poor infrastructure". Gotta admit...he's good at making troll posts if nothing else.

Hmmm....maybe god likes liberals after all.

The twisted mind of calamity.

You just made dumbest post of the month.

It's still early. I can probably beat this over the next 25 days

government is only as good as our ability to rein it in when it becomes bad.

as for tornadoes, they can strike very quickly and obviously when the weather is bad, limiting visibility and causing confusion. Good infrastructure or not, there is only so much you can do. I am sure the red states have adequate alarms and safety measures.

Tornadoes occur mostly between the Rockies and the Appalatians no matter which political party holds office. One has to be really partisan to decide that politics is a factor in tornado casualties. This deadly tornado cut a path a bit over 1/4 mile wide for about a mile which just happened to be along a heavily populated roadway. Unlike hurricanes, tornadoes are harder to predict, form and vanish quickly and effect a tiny percentage of their watch/warning areas.

Nope, it was the result of tornadoes.

Hawaii has great civil preparedness? California?

I reject you premise, calamity.

That's not a commentary on the state of emergency response in "Red States" then, it's a commentary on the state of your mind.

Just remember that karmas is a bitch.

How many tornadoes to blue states have, and how intense are they when they do occur? :lamo

Has nothing to do with God liking liberals. California has earthquakes, Florida has hurricanes and the upper NE has Nor'easters and blizzards.

...and Hawaii has volcanoes.

Gods are just not happy...we need to sacrifice more virgins. And, since female virgins didn't work. Maybe it's time to try sacrificing male ones.

I have a particular one in mind. He seems to be having a meltdown at the moment.

Not really. He put us in the San Francisco area on top of seismic faults. And we don't even see a black funnel coming our way.

Get a clue, willya?

The larger issue is the fact that a lot of wealthy blue states will be helping foot the bill for the rebuilding and reconstruction, and helping bear the increases in the costs of all kinds of insurance, all while these red states continue to endlessly attack the blue states and pray for their demise.

Anyone with any sense has at least one weather radio or similar device handy in their homes or businesses and that's just for starters. The bottleneck occurs when federal agencies like the National Weather Service and NOAA get played as political footballs and subjected to merciless funding cuts.
Don't forget, most of the people who live in those red states see federal workers as thieves....if not most, then certainly a powerful and very vocal minority.

But all the infrastructure in the world won't stop a twister.
