These Are the 381 Books Removed From the Naval Academy Library (1 Viewer)

Happens every day in every library everywhere.

No, it doesn’t. Curating is not censorship. Ma y libraries have limited resources so they can’t afford to carry everything. But now libraries join together in bigger groups so as to be able provide as wide a source of material as possible. Their goal is not to engage in censorship, as the obvious goal was in this case.

Are the books still available? Has the government prohibited purchasing or possessing these books? If not, then it’s not a 1st amendment issue.

This thread has nothing to do with Covid, but it does have to do with people shrieking about censorship because a library removed some books that are still available. It seems the only thing that will make you guys happy is for every public library to hold copies of every single book ever published.

Do you understand what a book really is?

In the first month of the First World War. People died by the thousands, and then tens of thousands. And then by the hundreds of thousands. Blood soaked the ground turning it to mud.

But it is not ironic that I as a Veteran say that wasn’t the worst tragedy of that first month. The worst was the Burning of the Library of Louvain.

More than a quarter million books, manuscripts, letters from the Medieval times was destroyed. History was destroyed. Our ability to learn and understand was destroyed.

Never again could Historians research questions. Never again would anyone be able to read what had been written. Preserved for centuries, destroyed in hours. Lost forever.

When you remove books on the Holocaust it isn’t because the information is superfluous. It is because you don’t want anyone reading it. When you remove Harriet Tubman from history of the Underground Railroad, it isn’t because you wish to be accurate. It’s because you don’t want people to know.

It isn’t my personal opinion alone. It is the literal founder of the Navy as to what an Officer should be.

We don’t want robots. We want people who can think, who are capable of critical thought. The best officers from history were thinkers. People who never stopped thinking and considering.

When you remove books you are saying you don’t want them to read those books. Removed not for condition of the books, or lack of relevance, or even disinterest. Removed for political reasons.

How can I use Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan allows materials (typically books or journal articles) not owned at Nimitz Library to be requested from other libraries. Articles are sent as PDFs and are yours to keep. Books must be returned after a period of time.

Did the Grand Inquisitors place red flags on ILL requests for the removed books? Or, are the books available via ILL?

Has anyone ever come across an official criteria or an official check list which provides the necessary elements a book must possess to qualify for removal?

I just went to the Nimitz library website and searched for the book.It says there are two copies available on the third floor.

It's more like what will make trump and crew happy. It's the GOP who wants these books removed in a form of censorship but you won't admit that, you'll just keep defending the book burners by saying there must be a copy somewhere, right?

According to the Times article, these books were removed from the library by Hegseth's office because they dealt with the issues of diversity, equality, and inclusion.

They were "curated" because they do not align with the ideology of Trumpism.

The government may be prohibiting certain books from libraries because they object to the content, but please don't say they are banning them.

No matter what you call it, prohibiting ideas is an attack on freedom.

Who is burning books in this case? Do you have pictures of the bonfires?

These books haven’t been destroyed nor have they been banned from purchasing, possessing or reading. I know hyperbole is your shtick, but give it a rest.

I went to Walmart to get some cheesecloth, it said they had plenty, they had none.
That has happened to me many times at Walmart. Walmart sucks. Has nothing to do with the Naval Academy library. They have two copies of the book on the third floor. You can also access many books including this book on loan through the inter library system.

Stopped reading right here. Come back when you can actually address my post instead of just being insulting.

So no. You don’t. Got it.

So why do you think trump thought it was necessary to remove them from the naval academy?

The library system says the books are on the third floor. If they are there obviously they have not been removed.

If, well then that's good enough for you.
What is good enough for me is actually going to the library website and seeing that the book is listed as there on the third floor. Did you look?

Nope. My local library lists books that they say they have but when I go to my local branch, no book. You are going by the website, I'm going by what trump said.

Are you saying that your local library has pulled a book from circulation but did not remove the listing? Or is it that someone checked it out before you?
