These Are the 381 Books Removed From the Naval Academy Library

I've already said books shouldn't be removed from libraries for adults. In fact, I've said that in probably every "banned books" thread we've both been in.

And I'm not "MAGA".

Then the government has banned all firearms and pornography.
Except they shouldn't be removed even for teens, kids simply because of something like this.

And no, banned books is a phrase with a clear connotation, meaning, context.

I agree that books shouldn't be removed from minor children's public schools or libraries because they are about civil rights or anti-racism.

As you know, since we've had this discussion so many times, my issue has always been with the books that are overly sexual. Ya know, the books you refuse to read so you can be more informed on the topic.

Sure. And using that same logic, the government has banned all firearms and all pornography.

That was even dumber than most of your posts Josie.

I imagine the willful stupidity of trumpists will get more and more profound as more and more of Crooked donnies shit affects them personally. The justifications and rationalizations will get more and more preposterous.....until folks will tell us that removing books from libraries is not really bad at all.

Crazy stuff. I don't get it.

That was really dumb the first time you said it....and then you doubled down. smh

Millions use library services. Technology has increased the use and ease of use of library services.

Of course people that have never read a book will dismiss libraries as unimportant.

I mean.....a tax cut for billionaires will better serve our children. Am I right? AMIRITE?

This is a classic authoritarian fascist move to try to stifle ideological and political views that those temporarily in power don’t like. It is a demonstrating a fear of and stifling of differing opinions, the very thing that the extreme right wing complains is happening on college campuses.

That isn't what is happening here. It's the government deciding what books should be made available in one of their schools. When the government actually bans a book - as in, you cannot buy it, cannot possess it, cannot read it, then that would be the government telling you what you can and can't read.
Making excuses for Nazis is a very bad look.

Y’all get your panties in a bunch over acronyms so often.

Nobody even uses CRTs anymore.

I get my panties in a bunch because it's cheaper to get them in a bunch.

The U.S. Naval Academy removed 381 books from its library shelves in response to President Trump 's executive order banning diversity, equity and inclusion materials and policies in federal facilities.

This is just plain bullshit. These are not school children. What is happening here is pure racist bullshit that needs to cost Hegseth his job.

DEI has caused more racism and socialist/marxist thinking than anything in my lifetime.

Nonsensical right-wing bullshit.

If the right and their denizens were racist abusive scumbags, DEI, Affirmative Action, and whole bunch of other things would never have been necessary. DO NOT attempt to defend what Der Furher Trumpler and his goons are doing.

Indeed. The books were banned.

Can you give an example?
This is the easiest one I could come up with that you may understand. If your house is on fire do you care what the color of their skin or sexual orientation is of the fireman/ women showing up to put the fire out?

The decisions made when curating the library might be debated, but it's not a government banning books.
Aye, there's the rub. "Curating" out every book dealing with racism and sexual identity/homosexuality is the thing that concerns me. That goes beyond curating. Sure, students/faculty could go to the public library and borrow some of these books, although some sound more academic. But how do they know such books exist if they aren't in the stacks to glance over? What worries me is that this is very clearly being done so the learning materials offered fit with the current administration's perspective and don't offer a different point of view. I never knew this to be government's role.

You can quibble over the use of the word 'banned,' okay. But it smells real bad, @Josie--real bad.

I agree that it's smells bad.

We don't live in a time where we're unaware of anything that isn't right in front of us so I don't think anyone would be unaware that some books even exist. I would venture to guess that most people go to the internet for research before going to check out a physical book from the library.
