The Republican Party Must Be Purged Like the Nazis and Fascists

“the GOP is no longer a legitimate political party.
...
The Republican party, however, both behaves and is ideologically most similar to Hungary's Fidesz party, Turkey's AKP party and Poland's PiS party.
All three are, essentially, fascist parties.”
=======

I have to agree with everything in the article. The tactics the fascists use in Hungry and Turkey to maintain power, gerrymandering, voter suppression and controlling the courts is exactly how the Republicans are trying to dominate in the U.S.

Commondreams.org? Really?

Bring on the great "purge", has to happen in every Socialist/Communist overthrow.

Just keep in mind, it's normally the bankers that are the first against the wall.(y)

Democrats: "OMG, why do Conservatives freak out every time we want to radically expand the power of the State over people? It's not like we'd ever abuse it."

I say sit back and let the GOP keep shooting itself in the foot with the white nationalist stuff.

tbh, a bunch of these nazis and confederates and white supramacists simply need to die from old age.

we'll still WAY to close to the Civil War.

The Republican Party is a reflection if it's base. It is stupid to think you can "purge" an ideology from the American electorate.

You are a member of the International corporate-fascist plutocracy with the EXACT agenda of Hitler's Mein Kampf, EXACTLY the same fixation on people's race and EXACTLY the same fascist ranting. The Democratic Party remains the greatest threat this country ever has and already more Americans have been killed in wars under Democratic leadership - many, many times over.

Your party's ideology is destruction, death, racism, hate-mongering, fear-violence and violence - all in servitude and mindless submission to the richest racist men in the history of earth.

Also Democrats:
You mean like how the GOP fought to expand executive powers in the early 2000’s with “W”. And then again when Trump tried expanded his executive powers over the nation.

You pegged the irony meter!

In Hungary their fascist political party has scapegoated immigrants as a strategy and as the article said, "Victor Orban's Fidesz Party is particularly worth examining, because it sometimes appears that Donald Trump was using it as a model for his own rise to power." Fidesz promised to "making Hungary great again" and campaigned on building a wall across the entirety of Hungary's southern border. Fidesz instituted gerrymandering and voter suppression to hold onto power. Sound familiar?

These are exactly the tactics the Republicans use -- but you tell us the Democrats are the fascists, so that must be true.

.... No. No, the Imperial Presidency, which has expanded under every administration for my entire adult life, and which I oppose, is not at all like "We need to purge members of the other team like that one time we held mass trials and started executing people en masse after burning their territory into ash"

I think trump brings a Venezuelan flair to the party. Corruption and cronyism is a clear part of their strategy.

I cannot voice my idea for a solution.

Sadly, I think the absurd headline of the story is something one would expect from fascists themselves. No purge necessary. Yes, Trump acted like a fascist, and the America First movement is a sign of that. Yes, the GOP amazingly didn't bother putting together a platform during their convention, stating that they were in favor of whatever Il Duce wanted. And yes, since Gingrich proposed opposing ideas they actually supported when democrats did that have had fe ideas aside from "Repeal and Replace." But the party will recover from Trump. They showed signs of recovery with "The Lincoln Project." But true "rehab" will start once the civil and criminal charges against the Dear Leader become more public. If things get serious in that regard, the GOP will re-nickname itself as the "DWP," the "Donald Who? Party."

By the way, from the America First Caucus comes the following: "The America First Caucus will work towards an infrastructure that reflects the architectural engineering and aesthetic value that befits the progeny of European architecture, whereby publicly infrastructure must be stunningly but classicly beautiful, befitting a world power and source of freedom." I couldn't believe this. They are laying out a platform on architecture? Are they trying to sound like Nazis? Albert Speer, architect of the Third Reich, couldn't have said it better. None of this Frank Lloyd Wright "conformity with nature" or Western Hemisphere Aztec/Inca shit.

Why not leave the GOP as the party of Trump with all that means. The Republican Party's share of the electorate or those who affiliate or identify themselves as Republicans has dropped from 30% Nov 2020 to 25% today or as of 15 March 2021 in the latest Gallup party affiliation. Most of that drop of 5 points haven't gone over to the Democratic Party, they went into the independent ranks. The Democratic Party has risen by a single point since Nov 2020, 31% to 32% today.

Independents as shown in the midterms of 2018 when they went for the Democratic congressional candidates 54-42 and in 2020 presidential when they went for Biden 54-41 aren't going to vote for Trump or his backed candidates. The larger Democratic base along with receiving the majority of the independent vote seems, at least to me, point to Democratic Party successes into the near future. If I were a Democrat, I wouldn't want to mess with that.

The GOP has a choice in my opinion. Either they return to their more traditional conservative ideals or they continue to worship one man. If the former, they'll rebound nicely, if the later, the Democrats reap the rewards. I'm not about to try to change the GOP if they want to be the party of Trump. That's there decision since I'm not a Republican either.

Now I'd still say they're a legitimate political party even if they stay with Trump. A party of smaller size, but still the number two political party in the nation which they have been since FDR. Our two party system guarantees they're not going anywhere and are the only legitimate party capable of challenging the Democratic Party. Regardless of the way the Republican Party goes, sooner or later the democratic Party will make independents angry at them and they'll return the GOP to power. There's no other choice when one is angry at one party in our two party system. You either vote for one or the other regardless of the size of their base.

That's fine, as long as voters are the ones determining who their elected officials are. The fear is that Republican's in office are taking steps to hold onto power by minority rule. Already the Senate favors minority rule -- Republican Wyoming with about half a million people gets as many Senators as California, with 39 million people. In State legislatures, Republicans in power get to draw the Congressional district lines, and do so to tilt Republican representation in Congress. Now, those legislatures are passing laws to make it harder for mainly Democratic voters to vote.
