“The insistence on Democrats’ poor messaging or on the public just not getting it once again underestimates the financial uncertainty engulfing the lives of ordinary Americans—especially those seen as the base of the Democratic Party—and their anger about it. Post-pandemic inflation has been devastating, reaching a forty-one-year high in 2022, and driving up the costs of food, gas, and housing. Inflation chewed through the significant wage increases among workers due to state-level wage hikes along with a tight pandemic-era labor market. In 2023, the median incomes of Black and Latino households barely rose year-over-year, even as inflation remained high. Democrats have insisted that inflation has dropped to “normal” levels, but this means only that the pace at which prices are rising is slowing. Sticker shock has not abated.”

Apologies for the pay wall and I don’t want to give the impression that the author is a Trump supporter or that he makes any arguments in favor of Trump, he definitely doesn’t. I think, though, this is a really good breakdown of how many Americans were/are genuinely hurting and why just telling them how good things really are didn’t resonate.

I don't disagree. I think the Dems have long abandoned the working class. But while the GOP is going to play the role of "working man joe", they might want to do something about getting union support. Perhaps getting rid of right to work states and giving support to unions would be a good start? My guess is the GOP will end up going the route Democrats in the 1930's and onward until the political shift under Nixon. We will start to see a split between southern Republicans and northern Republicans until the party splits on those lines.

Ha. You're about to learn what "abandoning the working class" actually looks like.

I do know. I live in a right to work state and everyday it's the same conversation about how the Democrats have abandoned the working people.

More government programs are not the answer. Propping up the economy with tax money is not sustainable and just drives inflation up. A freer more competitive market would be more beneficial to more people overall.

You're just regurgitating right wing talking points. The greatest con of the Culture War in the United States was the success of convincing American voters to ignore their own interests and give corporations total power over their lives.

I mean, Scatty Kitty's state passed a right-to-work law and the people there are blaming....Democrats. The power of right wing propaganda is mind boggling.

Democrats just needed to talk to the people to see what's really going. Inflation rate is down but prices are permanently high and that's not going to change. Fed rates are slowly going down, but the 10 year note is still high (which is set by investors bidding on bonds) which drives mortgages, credit card and auto loan rates. So what do people have? Stagnated wages, high consumer prices, and debt that burying them alive.

That's because many if not most of them can't kick their faux addiction, and they get fed that line every night. Meanwhile, the Republicans wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. In fact, having worked in a right to work for less state, I know that the reason that the rich got all of the money from the economic boom and the workers got jack shit is almost completely because of Republican policy.

I'll agree that labor issues and the working / middle classes should be the primary focus of the Democratic party, though. I've said for years that they should let Republicans own the gun issue entirely. Let's see a Republican face explaining the why after every mass shooting.

Right, it’s much better to create an economy that’s actually hostile to business success and for people to give the government “total power over their lives” instead.

The fiction that having a government monopoly is better than having corporate competition is the demorat’s problem.

Maybe that’s because left wing propaganda about how great everything is for everyone doesn’t actually reflect what people are experiencing.

Republicans already began to "experience" a thriving economy after November 5. The right wing propaganda about the economy during the Biden administration was just that: propaganda.

The Marxist democrats have bigger concerns than the proles, the working class. democrats need to ensure Apple has unfettered access to slaves in China. democrats need to ensure that nothing threatens offshoring to India by Microsoft. The party of, by, and for the Oligarchs isn't real fond of America; democrats sure the hell aren't going to support American workers.

Remember - the average Billionaire is a DEMOCRAT - and generally extremely aggressive about establishing one party rule. Warren Buffet and Oprah aren't hard left because it benefits YOU. Tim Cook and Bill Gates aren't trying to make life better for you.

The dirty dozen of mega/maga billionaires who donated over 💯 million were all GOPs.
Who knew that less than 50% popular vote would be a ‘mandate’, as amplified by magas.

Specifics? This is a bumper sticker.

Where'd you get that from?

MAGA will fail because Trump and the GOP are billionaires fighting for billionaires. The wealth distribution in this country is off the charts lopsided.

1% of America holds 40% of the nations wealth. The bottom 80% of the country hold 7% of the nations wealth.

Trump and GOP policy has directly led to this problem. And what do they propose? More of the same. Tax cuts for the rich. Privatization of government services. Trump’s campaign rhetoric is just that, rhetoric to get elected

Unless you make above 200k a year, you are playing for the wrong team.

There’s one. 👇

Since Republicans began to "experience" a thriving economy after November 5, that's just that much more evidence that right wing rhetoric in the last few years was propaganda. If it wasn't propaganda, republicans wouldn't spontaneously decide that everything bad is now good.

That's the problem with right wing propaganda: you've been regurgitating bumper-sticker soundbites for so many decades that you actually think you know what you believe anymore.
