“We’re in the throes of a national crisis,” said Sherrilyn Ifill, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. “People are looking at our system of criminal justice and our system of law enforcement and they recognize that something is wrong.”

The president’s response has been constrained, both by the need to avoid prejudicing any federal legal action and because of a political environment that pins him between those who think he needs to say more on behalf of African-Americans and those who think anything he says about African-Americans shows his bias in their favor.

Obama's relative silence on Baltimore is deafening and a disgrace to the reputation and integrity of America. In effect, his lack of a passionate call to end the violence is a tacit acceptance and approval of it.
 
He knows its only a matter of time before it hits DC. Pennsylvania Av will be in shambles soon enough.
Cats out of the bag.
The cops are impotent and not a force to be reckoned with. They will fold, cut and run. Nat guard may be a different story. But don't expect them to show in force with much in the way of live ammo.
If the leadership of a city like Baltimore is this incompetent and scared. The thugs know that its open season on any city.

I can find 100s of things you probably haven't posted about. Does that mean you endorse/approve them?
 
7 years into his administration, he has only himself to blame for that perception. He has made only the occasional pandering forays into the arena, and each time he has he has managed to **** up beyond words. He has never applied thought or reason, or leadership to his limited comments on race and he has done less than dick in actions designed to help both race relations and the black community. And lest anyone make a stupid comment like "its not his job'...how much effort has he expended directly trying to assist the illegal latino community? (and if you need help answering that question...theres some very good videos of interviews with some black folk that can help you out on that front)

Of course its difficult for him. When the few times you have engaged all you have done is pandered...how do you expect to now look 'presidential'?

If (when?) all police decide to simply observe crimes taking place without any attempt to interfere that would, indeed, be a national crisis. As it stands now this moronic decision (made by Baltimore's liberals in charge?) to let rioting, looting and arson (witnessed live by LEOs) slide, in order not to interfere with "legitimate protest", was an extremely bad call that (naturally?) now "necessitates" a very draconian curfew (marshall law?) and the closing of public (and private?) institutions.

When elected officials decide to let folks run wild to "vent frustrations" so long as they do not destroy public property (see Ferguson's moronic riot response) we, as a society, deserve the right for immediate recall elections. The police were not designed to protect and serve the government elite's personal wishes, they are paid, using public funds, to protect and serve the rights of the general public. Allowing (ordering?) the general publicly funded police to act a private security force directed to simply watch private property crime while guarding only precious public assets should be a federal crime - that turns justice into "just us".

Has anybody considered the possibility that that if we didn't allow cops free reign in killing civilians this wouldn't be a problem?

If the protesters were a bunch of white guys in Idaho with shotguns, they'd be the new heroes on the right. They'd be "defenders of the American way of life, using the Second Amendment as intended to throw off tyranny." Black people in a city - "Thugs. Obama's fault."

That's so cute. It COMPLETELY ignores 40,000 dead minorities give or take due to inner city violence every year and 1.2 million violent crimes perpetrated against mostly minorities BY minorities every year covering the gamut from murder to rape to just a good old fashioned beat down....but hey...as long as you can blame the opportunity to steal a six pack of toilet paper and a can of Pringles on the occasional incident involving the most extreme minority of law enforcement officers...well...knock yourself out. Or go hang out in Baltimore in a show of solidarity and let them knock your ass out. Either way....make sure someone videotapes it.

As I said. I didn't mention race at all. I said we have a problem when police are killing citizens. You're the one being the race hustler here.

I'm not terribly flattered that you'd compare me to Obama, but your comment is asinine for other reasons. This President has made it his business to jump feet first into any racially tense situation and always to defend or protect black criminals who die at the hands of police or others and yet he doesn't have either the stones or the brains to challenge the black anarchists in Baltimore and call them out for what they exactly are.

I say he won't because he's enjoying what's happening in Baltimore and supports it - that's my opinion.

During a Saturday briefing, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said her city government “gave those who wished to destroy space to do that,” seemingly approving of the rioters who smashed the city’s police vehicles in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray.

Depends on what he said. If he had the stones to stand up and say the black youth in Baltimore are acting like savages and anarchists who deserve a swift and brutal response and take down from the police and/or national guard, then he'd be applauded for doing what was right.

I'm curious Rocket - do you have even a single example of "white guys" in Idaho or anywhere else in America who have rioted and looted, destroying public and private property with impunity? I'd love to see your example.

Funny how you'd equate what happens at a football game to what's happening in Baltimore. You really are desperate to rationalize, equivocate, and excuse the criminality and brutality taking place on the streets in Baltimore. I can only assume you favour it as well.

Thank you - I'll grant you a Twitter pic is better than nothing. I'm betting, but I have no evidence to prove it, that the university dealt pretty swiftly and decisively with those students of theirs they could identify. I'd toss them out of school and toss them in jail for a couple of months too, along with a restitution order and additional damages paid to the city.

I still see nothing that equates to the violence against white people and property in Baltimore. Perhaps you have other anecdotal Twitterings to share - something more consequential than a stop sign being destroyed.
