The mask policy served up as a result of GOP COVID 19 can have dual purpose with allergy season as well as preventing the spread of the common cold

According to experts that AccuWeather spoke with, masks can be beneficial for people who experience allergy symptoms in the spring, partially due to the size of pollen particles.

"Masks can prevent pollen from getting in your nose, and therefore can cut down on your pollen allergy symptoms," Melanie Carver, the Chief Mission Officer for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), said. "Pollen grains are larger than viruses, so anything that can filter a virus can filter pollen."

While N-95 masks are ideal for filtering viruses and pollen from entering the body, a standard cotton mask with double layers will still be effective in cutting down the amount of particles that a person breathes in. (Getty Images/Imgorthand)
N-95 masks, which catch 95% of particles, are the most ideal for filtering things like pollen and other allergens, especially in situations when a lot of exposure is anticipated.

"These masks have different sorts of levels of filtration," Robert Naclerio, an allergy specialist at Johns Hopkins University, said.

However, Naclerio said an N-95 is not always the most practical mask for daily use. "Many people will notice a difference just by wearing a double-layered cotton mask."

"Some pollens are larger than others and you can see them with your naked eye. Even smaller pollens can get trapped in the fabric of your mask instead of getting inhaled up your nose," Carver said.

Is this the new push? Keep wearing masks, even after the threat of covid has abated?

Why not? When will COVID 19 be abated with so many refusing to wear masks and/or refusing vaccinations?

Isn't it time to stop being stupid?

Generally speaking the issue of preventing allergies and common colds should not be difficult to understand.

I recently stocked up on masks. If it is not obvious that a retail unit is actively preventing COVID 19 I will not be doing business at these locations.

While covid is a threat (it won't always be), wearing masks is a usefull and simple tool to help prevent spreading.

But I've no intention of wearing one for the rest of my life. I like to see peoples faces, their smiles. I'm tired of picking up the discarded ones off the ground. And I got 50 bucks says, at some point down the road, there will be cause for concern as landfills fill up with masks, fish get tangled in them, etc. There will be an environmental impact.

Yes I can see some of the masks becoming an environmental issue however no one knows when COVID 19 will stop being a concern as people are STILL dying every day.....

If the measure of "threat" is daily deaths, we'll all be wearing masks from the day we're born till the day we die.

At some point, flu deaths and covid deaths are going to equal out. And people are going to be making personal decisions based on their threat comfort levels.

YOUR GOP anti American Party created this situation therefore your garage comments should be directed
at them.

I knew a guy in high school who bought a gas mask as part of a Halloween costume, and ended up wearing whenever he walked his dog during allergy season.

The threat of COVID 19 has not abated therefore it is wise to ignore anyone who states otherwise.....

Masks suck, they steam up my glasses making it harder for me aim my guns.

Liberals love masks as they have become the 'woke' symbol of compliance. Only reason for me to ever wear a mask at this point is if I am sanding drywall or robbing a bank.

Is this the new push? Keep wearing masks, even after the threat of covid has abated?

Push?? How about it was merely a suggestion.
We had barely any winter cold or flu season in 2020, see if you can guess why.

The suggestion is that perhaps people in Japan and some other asian nations may have the right idea about wearing masks.
It doesn't mean that "THE BIG EVIL GOVERNMENT" is going to mandate permanent mask regulations, it just means some doctors want the message to get out: "Want fewer allergies? Want less colds? Want less flu? Consider mask wearing when out and about in large crowded venues and you may find you've largely skipped the suffering so common at certain times of year."

So funny...when Michelle Obama suggested eating right, Republicans lost their shit on Fox News, screaming that Michelle was really a trans-male who wants to control what Americans are allowed to eat.
Sounds a wee bit hysterical.

Our government has a history of trying, or succeeding at, mandating things "that is best for us", so when I hear things like this plastered in the news, I react.

I'm curious to know if mask wearing is voluntary in China and Japan. Non covid times, I mean.

While covid is a threat (it won't always be), wearing masks is a usefull and simple tool to help prevent spreading.

Someone obviously doesn't suffer from allergies....

No one is saying you have to wear a mask every single day for the rest of your life. Rather, it's that wearing masks on a regular basis obviously has benefits beyond slowing the spread of COVID. It helped reduce the spread of influenza last year, it can help people with allergies.

As to COVID, the way things are going, it's probably going to end up like the flu -- a seasonal disease that hospitalizes and kills another 20,000 to 60,000 people a year. Moving forward, you're likely to see people who live and work in senior living facilities wear masks for most of the winter.

Plenty of societies do just fine with more frequent mask-wearing than the US. For example, it's common for people in Asia to wear masks when they don't feel well.

Being mad about masks just makes no sense. It's like being angry about seat belts.

I got 50 bucks says, at some point down the road, there will be cause for concern as landfills fill up with masks, fish get tangled in them, etc. There will be an environmental impact.
sigh

I'm sorry, but that sounds a lot more like a rationalization than a serious objection. Plus, as the article points out, cloth masks can still help people suffering from allergies.

Pretty soon all the mask mandates will be lifted and we can stop with the mask theater .
Nervous nellies can still wear them any time they want.

I don't need to wear a mask. I'm vaccinated. The only reason I wear one is that businesses require it.

single-payer-large.jpg

Why single-payer?

In a single-payer system, one entity would act as an administrator or payer. This entity would collect all health care fees and pay out all health costs, and all providers (e.g., hospitals, physicians and other practitioners) would bill one entity for their services.

Patients would have a choice over their providers, who would remain as independent as they are today. Thus the single entity would be responsible for paying for health care, but, except in unusual circumstances such as the Veterans Administration hospitals or the Indian Health Service, would not actually deliver that care.

A single-payer system would greatly streamline administration, thereby cutting back on paperwork and allowing more money to go towards actual medical services.

In addition, improved databases would allow better monitoring of utilization patterns, allowing the identification of geographical areas in which services are over- or under-utilized.

This system has been estimated to reduce administrative services from the current 25-30 percent of the premium dollar under private insurance to approximately 5 percent.

And yet, you go for a walk on any road near a town, main street, etc...and what will you see on the side of the road?

Discarded masks. They're now more common than fast food drink cups and bags.

Some day they should be made with better materials ........

Donald Trump lied about COVID 19 now we need to wear masks most everywhere

And yet, you go for a walk on any road near a town, main street, etc...and what will you see on the side of the road?

I go for a lot of walks, in many different towns and main streets. I don't see many discarded masks. I guess you just live in a crappier town than I do. :D

At any rate, the "litter" argument is kind of ridiculous, unless you are on record opposing a huge range of disposable items. And even if that is the case, the article points out that cloth masks can also help those who suffer from allergies.

What rationalization do you have to oppose the use of cotton masks?Perhaps it uses up too much laundry detergent...?

I might add, no one is mandating that everyone should wear a mask to reduce allergy symptoms. The point is that masks can help in a lot of situations. We just aren't accustomed to wearing them in public, despite the potential benefits.
