Bush and the Republicans tried for years to stop the corruption at Fannie and Freddie.

The Democrats did everything from lie in front of Congressional commitees about the fiscal health of the GSE's, to writing letters warning Bush not to regulate them, to making TV commercials explaining that " affordable lending" was going to be affected by the Republcians attempts to regulate Fannie Mae.
